The black mascara that clung to my lashes framed my eyes with every ticklish stroke. I looked into the bathroom mirror, applying my make-up for the all important party.
Music playing, four seventeen year old girls giggling and dancing makes for the perfect pre-party scene. We all danced around in our bra and underwear to the tune as well as doing our make up.
I applied a nude colored lipstick to my thin lips, and some pink-y colored blush to my cheekbones.
Ghost by Ella Henderson played out of the little purple Bluetooth speaker in Lauren's bedroom.
"I keep going to the river to pray, cos I need something that can wash all the pain, and at most, I'm sleeping all these demons away. But your ghost, the ghost of you it keeps me awake" I think I got a bit carried away with the song because everyone had stopped dancing and was looking at me.
"What?" I asked them.
"Hayley, your voice is amazing, you have to do something with it!" Beth said.
"Yeah, right, sure. Sell it? Trade it for 5 Seconds of Summer concert tickets?" I joked.
"Yeah, maybe trade it for a record deal!" Lauren squealed.
"Whatever..." I mumbled, trying to get off the topic of off me.
After we had all squeezed into our dresses, and put on our masks, we all went and got into Katelyn's car, and she drove us to the party.
At the party, everyone, I mean everyone, was there. Everyone from our grade, eleven, above and below. There was even ninth graders there, as well as people that I had seen graduate last year.
Because it was a masquerade / dress up party, some people were in crazy costumes, but others came in formal attire. I remember talking to Casey and he told me what he would be wearing, but I told him he would have to try and figure out who I was.
I saw him across the room.
He was in a modest costume, Who am I kidding, this is Casey we are talking about. He had come as a fireman. Innocent? No. He was wearing blue fireman pants with yellow suspenders and a yellow hat. No shirt on. But, I was cool with that.
It showed off his small tattoos scattered over his upper arm and shoulder. Some of them were lyrics from songs, like 'wreck the plans we had before, let's be unpredictable' was in handwriting on the inside of his arm.
But he also had multiple of his favourite superhero logos on the same side, across his shoulder. But my most favourite one was his, this time a movie quote - my favourite quote, 'but mostly i hate the way i don't hate you. not even close not even a little bit, not even at all' was in typewriter lettering on his other wrist.
But there another weird and random ones scattered through.
Before I could take one more step, a bright spotlight blinded me. Oh no. A male voice came over the microphone and said, "These are our two new karaoke participants! Give them a round of applause as they come onto stage!"
Only a few people clapped. I watched Casey run up onto stage, then everyone clapped. People that I didn't even know had to push me onto stage next to him.
He looked at me and smiled dryly. He didn't recognize me. Then the music started, and the lyrics appeared on the screen below the stage.
The Start of Something New. - at least I know this song. Casey started to sing;
