Chapter 8 Moving On
"Hey mom I'm going to the beach!"
"Ok just don't forget your phone."
"Ok I will text when I'm heading back!!"
I walked out to the beach with my towel in hand. We were lucky because dad got a better job when we moved so that the beach was a few feet from the backyard. When I got there, there weren't a lot of people there. Only a few lingering here and there. I found the perfect spot and lay down my blanket. I sat down on the towel and pulled my legs up and wrapped my arms around them. I looked out at the ocean and saw Nathan and Joey in the water with two other girls. Something inside of me ripped. I know that Kristina is wrong. He doesn't love me or even like me. He used to give me dirty looks all of the time.
*Flahback to camping trip*
Kristina and I got in the back of the Suburban while the boys got in the middle. Joey was staring at Kristina's new swimsuit while Nathan was just staring at me. He either thought I didn't nnotice him staring or didn't care because he looked at me for a few seconds then looked away and was shaking his head. I felt a little hurt. I pulled out my book, Crank and everything around me dissapeared. When I finally looked up and saw that we were already there. I ducked out of the car after the boys did and hurried to help set up the tent. When we finally did it was dark and I plopped down into a seat."
"Do you want to go to the dock?"
"Sure"
Kristina and I made our way to the dock. When we got there we saw some benches and sat down as fast as we could because we were still winded from setting everything up.
"Hey did you know Nathan was giving you dirty looks in the car?"
"Well I saw him look at me and shake his head...."
"During the car ride he would ocassionally look at you. I almost went Nathan!!!"
"Oh... A whole bunch of people hate me!!"
"Not really!!"
"One things for sure though!"
"What??"
"Nathan's the leader of the hate train!"
Kristina laughed and I did too, but I didn't really think it was funny. After that it got really cold so we went back to the campsite and went to bed. In the morning we had some breakfest and headed down to Ocean City. The boys dived in head first. Kristina and I went to the water's edge and dipped our feet in.
"Holy crap that's cold!!"
I just laughed at Kristina and walked in. We were riding the waves. It was really funny because dad was there since it was Friday and he doesn't work on weekends. When dad rode a wave and landed on the shore he was facing down so it made it look like he was dead. We were all laughing at each other. Joey tryed to throw sand at Kristina, but he missed and hit me in the mouth.
"Ew! Joey you got it in my mouth!"
"Oh really? Sorry."
I looked around wondering where Nathan went and saw him with two girls and smiling and laughing. I turned and looked at Kristina. She saw where I was looking and looked back at me pretending not to notice.
"Are you having fun?"
"Yeah,,,"
"You sure don't sound like you are!"
Thankfully mom came over.
"Do you girls want to go over to the board walk?"
"Sure!"
*Back at camp*
Kristina got a sweatshirt and neon purple booty shorts while I just got a sweatshirt. We finally fell asleep from being all day at the beach. I wore a tank top, short shorts and my new sweatshirt to bed. When I got up from dad getting out of the tent I helped him pull out all of the chairs. I sat down in one while mom and Kristina got up. When mom did get up she made eggs and bacon. Nathan got up while she was still making it, but Joey didn't. When we were almost finished eating Joey woke up and ate his breakfest.
"Who wants to go to Assateague?"
"Eh"
"Oh ok I guess no one wants to go."
"Now if mother wants to go we will go!"
Dad made it clear that we were going to go. We all got dressed after eating and piled in to the car. We got there and saw all of the ponys on the sides of the roads. We got to the beach and put our towels down. The waves here weren't as big as Ocean City, but was still pretty rough. I got a whole bunch of sand in my bottoms.Once I was sitting on the shore near the water, but I didn't expect it to be so strong. Nathan was standing behind me and Joey next to me. The wave almost pushed me in to Nathan's legs, but he didn't notice because he was looking for shells. When we left Kristina and I jumped into the showers and hit the sack. We had to leave that morning so we got moving. This time on the way back the boys sit in the back and Kristina and I sat in the middle.
Nathan: "Can you hand me the dvd player?"
Me: "Sure"
I pulled it out from under me and handed it to me.
Nathan: "And the headphones?"
Mom: "Really Nathan?"
Nathan:"No I actually don't want them."
Mom: *Silence*
Nathan: "Actually I was being sarcastic and I do want them."
By that time I found them and handed it to him.
Nathan: "And the charger?"
I found it with the headphones before handed it to him.
Kristina: "You should love Ivy beacause she untangled them for you."
Nathan was watching his dvd so he didn't notice. After a few minutes I fell asleep. Nathan woke me up because he reached over the chair and grabbed the movies that were in the pocket in front of me. Whoa... That's a little close! Nathan didn't seem to mind and started watching again. I fell asleep again and woke up. I looked up and saw Joey staring at me. His eyes were really wide and his pupils were really small. The last time I woke up we were back home.
"Hey! Kristina Joey was looking at you."
"Yeah Nathan was staring at you too."
"Yeah probably giving me dirty looks."
"No just staring."
*End of flashback*
I smiled at the memory. I saw that Nathan was looking at me confused not sure if he should come over. Just then a soccer ball rolled over into my lap.
"Sorry!"
The person that said this had a really deep voice. I looked up and saw a tall and tan guy with a six pack. His sandy blonde hair was soaking wet. He smiled a dazzling smile when I looked up. If only Kristina could see him!!
"Here's your soccer ball back."
I said returning the smile.
"Do you need some company?"
"That would be nice, but weren't you playing soccer with some friends or something?"
"Oh yeah... I'm just going to go tell them real quick that I'm going to hang with you for a little."
"Ok!" This made me feel happier. I saw him walk over to a group of guys and it looked like he was explaining it to them. When they looked over they whistled. I looked away embarrassed. I felt him return and plop down.
"So are your friends ok with you hanging out with me?"
"Yep! Actually they wanted to join us, but I convinced them not to."
"Oh. Why?"
"Did you want them to hang out with us?" He sounded a little dissapointed.
"No! I just want to get to know you."
