The manager scolded us when he caught Amir and I talking rather than "helping the customers," despite the lack of people crowding the ice rink. It was one of our slow days at the Ice Palace, meaning customers wouldn't be within a fifty mile radius of us--a fact of which we were both well aware. Once our manager left, we both laughed hysterically at the stupidity of the altercation and simply carried on where we left off, gossiping about anything and everything that came to mind, specifically about the people in our school.
Amir practically ranted to me about how much he despises Marid due to the way he treats me as well as the people around him, and I couldn't help but flush at his kindness. I'm not used to people caring for my well being, as sad as it sounds. The only real friends I've had up until now have been Raja and Farrah, and holding conversations with them has become increasingly difficult as we all have such busy schedules. My mind began to twist in wonder, does Amir consider me a friend as much as I consider him one?
