"Pity. Perfect afternoon with no one here to accompany me." Alice Hightop said while enjoying the comfort of her cushioned white rocking chair. Alice's twin sister, Angelica, and their younger brother, Alex, were on their way to the market to stock up on some food for the month. It's been five years since their father ran off without a trace, but Alice still hoped that he would be back before Alex's 16th birthday tomorrow. Afterall, he was still their father and Alex loved him a lot.

An hour later...

Angelica must've dragged her brother in the "fashion section" of the market again. Poor Alex, even I don't enjoy going th-- But before she even finished, a faint light started to glow in front of her.

"HEY!" Alice called out to her father, who was a wizard often on the road. Alice wasn't too happy with the fact that her own father abandoned their family and ran off without even saying goodbye. With a cold expression, Alice continued on. "You're back. I thought you wouldn't even be able to make it to your own son's 16th birthday celebration."

"Way to greet your own father. It certainly has been a long time, hasn't it? I brought gifts for all of you! Where are the others?" Alice's father asked as he took out a large satchel filled with gadgets and little cute dolls. Of course, Alice would never admit that they were cute, for they remind her of the dolls that she used to get from her dad for birthdays.

Just then, Angelica and Alex walked in the garden, where Alice and their father were standing, making a large amount of bags float with their magic. Most of the bags from Angelica's little stroll in the clothing store. The Hightop teens do have magic, although it was not used a lot. Their mother banned using magic in the house, and the rule turned into a habit, followed even after their mother's tragic death.

"Father!" Alex was beyond glad that their father is now home, and in time for his birthday celebration. No party though, never a party, that would cost too much. Just a small gathering of the Hightops; it's always been a custom of the Hightop children's birthdays.

"Oh look, you're back." Being the twin sister of Alice, Angelica also had to abandon her after-school fun time to take care of housework. Angelica was never really thrilled with the fact that the only thing their father told them before he left was "Daddy's going on an adventure!"
