"5,6,7,8! Uhh! Girls! We've been trying to get this choreography for weeks now! Regionals is coming up in a few months. We need to prepare! If you guys don't want to try and put in the work then you know where the door is!"
That's my coach Amanda. She's been getting on all of us for not working hard enough. The Ranger's dance team has NEVER made it to state. This is the last year for a lot of us. I want us to win. But how can we win when we haven't had a fresh idea in years!
For some of the dancers this will be the last amazing thing they do with their lives. Others, it will be the send off, for something better.
I'm exhausted after I leave practice. Amanda works us so hard. It's probably because half of us should be a JV team. We would need 3 more people in order to have a Varsity and a Junior Varsity team.
Once I set my dance bag down, I go into my bathroom and take a nice warm shower trying to brainstorm ideas for us to win. When I get out I put on a long t-shirt and spandex and go sit in the little window nook in my bedroom.
As I'm looking out of my window I can see into Brody's bedroom.
As I see him in his room, he's dancing. Hip hop. He's actually really good. Like better than I thought. I've always wanted to do a guy girl routine but I've never spoken up about it. In that moment, I get an idea.
Boys! If we had boys join the dance team we could be unstoppable! They have agility, some coordination, and they're strong! And we'd be able to have 2 teams. I quickly send a text to my coach. As the captain and main choreographer, it's my job to find new ways for us to be successful. She doesn't answer and so I'll have to wait until tomorrow when I see her after school. Now that I think of it, this great idea just came from me stalking my neighbor...

School is torturous today. I can't wait until I can tell Amanda my new idea. This morning, the basketball team had an early morning practice in the gym so, I sat on the balcony and studied them. Some of them were more muscular which would be good for lifts. Others just had that hot smolder look that would woo the judges. When I say others I mean the Famous 5. They are the most popular boys in the school and they've all been best friends for years. There's Brody Daniels, Noah Summerton, Elijah and Joseph Greggory and Drew Miles. I honestly have one class with them. Gym. And they've never said a word to me. Oh except that Noah once told me I was good at dancing. And you best believe I swooned for weeks after that.
"Amanda!" I say when she shows up.
"I think I found a way for us to win." I say. There's a pause like she's waiting for me to continue.
"Well how?" She asks.
"Boys." I say.
"Boys?" She questions.
"Yes! If we get a bunch of boys to join. We could have a varsity and JV team. For Hip Hop we would be unstoppable. Jazz and Pom Varsity team could show off our strengths." I excitedly say.
"It's a very good idea but what boys are you thinking of?" She says.
"The basketball team." I say. Amanda and the basketball coach, Mr. Graige, have had a thing for about 2 years now.
"I like how you think." She says. "Start making a list of JV and Varsity girls by looking at our previous performances."
I nod and walk out. This is going to be amazing.
When I get home, I take a quick shower and throw on a pair of spandex and an oversized sweater. I'm playing music and hear a song that just makes me stand up and dance. It would be an amazing song to do for hiphop. I trying to figure out a chest popping combination when I hear a tap on my window. I go over to it and open it. Standing on the tree outside my room is Brody. Lets just take a minute. The Number one guy in our school is there. On the tree outside my window.
"Um hi." He says.
"Hi." I say.
"Can I come in?" He asks just popping into my room.
"Sure." I say since he's already inside.
"So captain of the dance team." He says.
"Captain of the basketball team" I say.
He laughs. "I guess so... Well my coach informed me today that I had to join the dance team in order to play varsity this year."
"Oh. Um-" I say but he cuts me off.
"I mean, I was really pissed when he told me, I mean, dudes don't dance. And I'll probably get made fun of but so far, a lot of guys are backing me up. Plus, I don't really like to upset Coach. And I kind of want to get to know you better." He says rambling.
I laughed.
"Yeah. I understand. We get made fun of a lot because we suck. That's why we wanted you guys to join. So that we can actually make it to state this year. And I kind of want to get to know you too." I say.
He smiles.
"Well, I hope we do because that would be great. It's getting late though so I should probably head home." He says.
I smile and watch as he maneuvers his way onto the tree connecting our houses. Then he hops into his window. He turns to look at me, smiles, and then walks into his room.
We are going to win. I can already feel it.
Ahhh! I know it's short. Just bear with me! It gets better. What do you guys think of Brody so far? I know, there are probably grammar mistakes, I'm just trying to get the story done as quick as possible for all of you and then I'll be able to go back and fix up some things.
