It had been a week since Stephen and Kat had gotten married, it was also Stephen's first (and possible last (for now) with the baby on the way) day back at work.
"Please, please, please let me come in. I'm going crazy here! I'll just sit in my office and play on my computer! Please...." Kat begged, giving Stephen puppy dog eyes.
"Fine!" He laughed, pulling her in for a kiss.
"Let's go otherwise well be late" Kat said, grabbing her bag and water bottle before opening the front door. Waddling her way down to the car, Kat climbed into the passenger seat with eh help of Stephen. Within a few minutes, they were on their way to the A.R.C.Pulling in through the gate, they headed into the carpark and parked. As Kat went to get out of the car, a muscly arm appeared at her door.
"Aren't you suppose to be at home?" Becker questioned raising an eyebrow.
"Well, yes. But I was starting to lose my mind..." Kat laughed, as she took Stephen's hand in hers.
"Fair enough." He laughed, pressing the button for the lift.
The three made their way upstairs. Becker went off to the security area as Kat and Stephen made their way to their office.
"Right, I'll be back in a little bit. I said I'd go with Matt and Emily to help them move their new sofa in" Stephen said, pulling on his jacket.
"Okay. Love you" Kat said, rubbing her belly as she gave him a peck on the lips. Stephen grabbed his keys, com and black box before leaving. For the next 30 minutes, Kat sat clearing out her emails before she decided to go visit Becker in the armoury."Hey..." Kat said, waddling in and over to the bench next to where Becker was cleaning an EMD.
"Hey, you okay?" Becker asked, noticing how uncomfortable Kat looked.
"Yeah, this little one is good at making her Mumma ache" Kat said, before a sharp pain washed across her stomach causing Kat to groan in pain.
"What's wrong?" Becker asked, kneeling downed concerned in front of her.
"No...ow. My stomach hurts." Kat groaned.
"Well, your may be going into labour" Becker said, taking her hand trying to comfort her. Kat got her phone out and called Stephen.
"Hey..." Stephen answered.
"Stephen" Kat cried as another wave of pain hit.
"What's wrong?" Stephen asked panicked.
"I think she's in labour..." Becker said taking the phone and putting it on speaker.
"Oh- err. Right, we're nearly back. Keep breathing and- "The line went dead after 3 beeps.
"Stephen?!" Within seconds a red light started flashing.
"LOCKDOWN. LOCKDOWN. LOCKDOWN" Echoed through the building.
"You've got to be kidding me!" Becker growled.
"Let's go to the control room..." Kat said, slowly standing up.
"It sounds like its an external lockdown, meaning we can still move around inside" Becker said, holding Kat's arm to support her."Jess, Connor. What the hell is going on?!" Kat growled, whilst sitting down on the steps.
"The computer has a virus..." Jess said. Kat groaned in pain again, making everyone look at her.
"I'm in labour" Kat said through gritted teeth.
"Perfect" Connor said, starting to freak out as he turned back to the computer to solve the issue.
"I also suppose now is a bad time to mention that fast labours run in the family?" Kat said, unamused as she took deep breathes. Becker looked at her and sighed.
"Just breathe. It's okay" Abby said, kneeling down next to her friend.
"Let's get her to the infirmary... at least that way Newt can help" Becker said, helping Kat stand up. Abby and Becker supported Kat all the way to the infirmary where Newt was waiting as they had radioed him.
"How you doing?" Newt asked, helping Kat sit down on one of the beds.
"Ahh...fabulous" Kat laughed before another wave of pain hit.
"I can give you something?" Newt said, allowing Kat to squeeze his hand. Kat nodded her head as the pain eased off.
Once Newt had given Kat some pain medication, Kat relaxed.
"Oh, no!" Kat cried, worrying everyone.
"What?" Abby asked, trying to comfort her friend who was now crying and by now, Danny had joined them in the infirmary.
"We're on lock down...which means Stephen can't get in" Kat said, before groaning as another contraction hit.
"Ermm, that's not strictly true. I – well, we – know a way in and out that isn't affected by lockdown" Danny said, glancing at Becker and then the others as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"We'll explain later. Abby, stay with Kat. Becker go see how Jess and Connor are doing, and I'll get Steph inside okay?" Danny said, giving Kat a hug. The boys then left, leaving Newt, Abby and Kat.
"Oh, my god! I wouldn't have done this if I knew it was going to be like this" Kat screeched as another strong contraction hit as they were now around 6 minutes apart.
"You're doing great..." Becker said, as he rushed back into the room to comfort his best friend.
"Connor and Jess don't know how long it's going to take." Becker said, before kissing Kat's forehead and squeezing her hand.
"I don't think she'll wait much longer" Kat groaned rubbing her belly as another contraction hit, causing her to lean into Becker who rubbed her back.
"You look flushed" Kat laughed after the contraction as she glanced up at Becker.
"Well, I'm a soldier...not a doctor. I've never done...this before" he laughed nervously.
"Neither have I...join the club" Kat laughed.
"Well luckily for you me and Abby have" Newt laughed.
"Oh- where's Stephen?" Kat cried as the contractions were starting to speed up and get stronger. Right that second Stephen and Danny burst through the door.
"Hey" Stephen said, sighing with relieve as he took Kat's hand in his and kissed it.
"You okay?" he asked.
"Peachy" Kat groaned.
"I think we'll go wait outside yeah? Give you some space" Becker said, giving Kat a hug before he left with Danny. It was now just Newt, Kat, Stephen and Abby.An hour later >>>
"Okay, one last push and you'll have a beautiful daughter" Newt said, as Kat was well into giving birth now. She had started pushing around 10 minutes ago and she was now so close. On the next contraction, Kat pushed hard and seconds later, cries filled the room.
"You did it..." Stephen said, wiping away a stray tear and Kat lifted their little girl onto her chest. Abby, who was now crying, went to update everyone and leave the couple to have a few minutes with their new daughter.
"She beautiful..." Kat whispered.
"Just like her Mumma" Stephen said, kissing Kat's forehead.
"Shaylynn." Kat said, not looking up.
"Huh?" Stephen asked, causing her to look up from their daughter.
"Shaylynn Elizabeth Lewis Hart" Kat said.
"Shaylynn because it's modern. Elizabeth and Lewis for my parents. And Hart because it's our family name"
"It's perfect" Stephen said.
"Shay for short" he laughed. Kat carefully handed Shay over to her daddy, so she could clean up and get washed and changed. Once Kat was freshened up, she sat back down on the bed with Stephen next to her and Shay in her arms. There was a light knock on the door.
"Come in" Kat called. All of their friends walked in. The next few hours consisted of everyone getting to meet Shaylynn and hold her. Kat smiled as she watched her friends in awe over her daughter. Whilst Kat had a proper shower and check-up, Stephen took Shaylynn and with the help of Connor, took some perfect picture of himself and his new baby girl.Once they were back as a family. Kat and Stephen sat cuddling their baby girl. A little over a year ago they met, and they were married and had the perfect daughter. They couldn't be any happier. Their life together was just beginning.
