Hazan was discharged the next evening. To her mother's dismay Ece had called Yasin and he offered to drive them in his father's cab. Fazilet didn't even want to see his face but seeing the fatigue in her daughters' eyes and the pain Hazan was still in Fazilet did not have the energy to pick a fight and decline. She begrudgingly got into the taxi but sat in the front, forcing Ece to sit in the back with Hazan.
Yasin and Ece took it as a change in attitude for Fazilet. Perhaps they were beginning to wear her down and she was starting to see the better side of Yasin.
The next day Ece and Yasin met up with their friends Murat and Ayse at a cafe. They came to the end of their meal and Yasin clears his throat.
"Ece..." Yasin turns to her.
"Yes?" she replied nonchalantly sipping her tea.
"I need to tell you something important."
"What is it?" still oblivious as to what would happen next.
"Ece, we've been together over a year now. You know how much I love you. You mean the world to me. I know we've faced some obstacles to get hear but I'm happy where we are right now. I want to see that sweet smile of yours everyday. I would kill for that smile. Ece," Yasin bent down on one knee in the cafe an pulled a small red box out of his pocket "Will you marry me?"
Thoughts raced through her mind. Of course she wanted to marry him. He was the love of her life. But that same nagging guilt caused her to hesitate. 'He doesn't have to know' she thought. 'If he finds out I'm certain he'll forgive me. It was an honest mistake. I would forgive him if he was in my shoes.' Despite her reservations Ece leaned forward,
"Yes!" and embraced her new fiance. Yasin slip the ring onto her delicate finger. It wasn't anything fancy. It was a white gold ring with a small solitaire in the centre, undetectable from afar but perfectly suited for her 17 year hold hands. The box had a matching band for Yasin which she placed onto his finger. Their friends and fellow cafe goers cheered for the young couple.
"Ece" Ayse grabbed the girl's attention "please let me do the honours." Ayse pulled out a red ribbon she had been carrying in her pursue the whole time. Murat and Ayse knew about Yasin's plan to propose and came prepared. Ayse tied the red string onto each ring and Murat cut it. They called over a waiter to capture the happy moment. The two were now officially engaged.
It was almost time for Ece's shift at the mansion. Yasin walked with her along the way.
"Yasin, you know I can't tell my mom right away. Don't you? She needs time to warm up to you, yesterday was a good start."
"I know. But I want you to know that I'm committed to you, that I want to marry and spend the rest of my life with you. I'm not just some boyfriend. I will honour you as my wife."
Ece blushed at the word wife. Letting her girlish daydreams get the best of her Ece imagined what it would be like to be Yasin's wife. She would be in their own apartment. Ece would be prepping dinner while Yasin settled in from a long day's professional basketball practice. A mini Yasin would run into the kitchen and tug on her apron asking when supper would be ready. She would tell the blonde haired blue eyed cherub to be patient. He would be the splitting image of Yasin.
They arrived outside the mansion. It was the first time Yasin had seen it upclose. 'So this is where my fiance works' he thought. He smiled catching himself refer to her as fiance in his mind.
"I have to go now. I'll see you tomorrow." the young lovers slowly release each other's hands.
