Chapter 17: Truth Revealed

It was nearly a week later. The Egemen children were gathered in the living room discussing what to do with their father's estate. The doorbell rang. One of the housekeepers retrieved couriered mail for Yagiz Egemen. She handed over the letter then returned to her work.  Yagiz had a triumphant grin on his face. This would uncover Ece's lies. There was no way his dad fathered a child a with her. It must be her jailbird lover's child. 

"What is that?" Gokhan asked, curious as to the grin on Yagiz's face. 

"While Ece's fetus was tested for birth defects last week I asked the doctor to save a sample so we could run a DNA test and prove that is not our half sibling she's  carrying. I gave my DNA to compare. This will be proof enough for the lawyer. She won't get a penny more than what we've already offered her." Yagiz explained. 

His siblings and Yasemin gathered closer waiting for Yagiz to open the letter. He tore open the letter and read the results. The test showed child and relative. He scanned over to the relative column, his DNA. It showed a 99.99% match. 

"What does that mean  then? She told the truth? She's carrying our sibling?" Sinan asked.

"Just give me a second." Yagiz read the front page of the results again. He didn't understand what all the figures meant. He flipped the page to find a table "Interpreting Results". A half sibling would be a 25% match, full sibling 50%...99.99% match indicated parent-child relationship. Gokhan grabbed the paper from him and read it for himself. 

"Yagiz" his brother was shocked, "What's the meaning of this?"

"What are you talking about, let me see." Sinan snatched the paper, coming to the same conclusion. "Abi, what is this? Does that mean what Selin was saying was true?"

"What's true?" Selin asked. Selin was sat on the far end of the couch and couldn't see the results. 

"He's the father of Ece's child!" Sinan revealed. Yasemin and Selin sat back in shock. Selin knew she was right about bitch. How else did her exam prep book end up in his bedroom? What she can't believe is how Yagiz lied about it this whole time. Even at gunpoint when Yasin nearly killed him, he still denied it. Selin's emotions were so jumbled up she didn't know how to react. She was shocked at his piece of news yet felt vindicated as it proved she wasn't crazy to suspect that he had a relationship with Ece. She was angry at Ece for playing her father and now her brother, but also angry at them for letting themselves get played by the same whore. She was sad over her father's death still and now saddened at what this meant for her brother's future. 

Yagiz was at a loss for words. He couldn't understand how the results could indicate he was the father of Ece's child. Yagiz was there when they took the fetus DNA sample and his DNA sample. How could there have been a mixup? He wasn't the father. He never did anything with Ece. He hadn't even slept with anyone in ages aside from that one night stand... But it couldn't be. How could it possibly?

"Yagiz, explain yourself!" Gokhan nugged his younger brother for an explanation. 

"This can't be right." Yagiz  said to himself in a low voice. He grabbed the paper from Sinan's hand and went upstairs. Yagiz barged into Ece's room and locked the door behind him. Ece was putting away some clothes when she was startled by Yagiz bursting into the room. "Ece, sit down." he commanded. Yagiz has a serious look on his face. She didn't want to argue and conceded by taking a seat at the foot of the bed as Yagiz stood in front of her with one hand running through his hair and the other holding a piece of paper. "Ece, I need to ask you something and you have to give me a clear and full answer." Yagiz told her in a stern voice. Ece nodded in agreement. "The day  my mother died, the day before you started working here, where were you? What did you do?"
