Yagiz found it strange to have someone else living in his house. He couldn't relax. He found it hard to navigate Ece's irritability and mood swings. He wasn't sure if it was the pregnancy hormones or the stress of preparing for her year end finals in 3 weeks, but her mood swings were unpredictable. Ece sat at the dining table studying as she did every night after dinner. Yagiz was on the couch watching the news. He could hear her munching away while studying. He couldn't comprehend how Ece could shovel down food but not gain a pound. She was a skinny girl to begin with so the swelling of her stomach simply looked like an average sized waist. But in a fews more weeks she would definitely begin to show.
"Can you turn that down? I'm trying to study." she snapped at him. He didn't have the mental energy to argue with her tonight. He made himself a cup of tea and sat down at the dining table across from her and read the news on his phone. "Can you not sip so loudly?"
"I can't even drink tea in my own house now?" It was small things like this. Every night Ece found something to argue about. Ece simply rolled her eyes at him. Yagiz noticed how intensely focused she was in preparing for her finals. She must want to ace her exams, he thought. "Ece, what do you plan to do after high school?" "
"What do you mean?" she asked, eyes glued to her notes, clearly still annoyed by his very presence.
"Are you going to go to university?" Ece must have other ambitions beyond motherhood.
"Not anytime soon."
"Why not? You could start this fall." Ece cocked her head to the side and started at him with a confused look.
"Yagiz, are you good at math?"
"Yes, why? Do you want me help help you study for your math final?" Of course she needs me to tutor her. I don't blame her. I am a financial genius. Yagiz smiled smugly to himself.
"I have a math question for you: If I'm 15 weeks pregnant right now, when will I give birth?"
"Right." His inflated ego swiftly popped. Yagiz momentarily forgot the fact she was due in October.
"No one wants to see me give birth in an Economics 101 class. And I can't exactly sit in a lecture hall while my tits are leaking milk and my vagina is still healing from pushing out something the size of a bowling ball."
"Okay, I get it." He begged she stop her graphic description. Yagiz didn't know if Ece had always been this crude or if pregnancy made her not give a shit about how she spoke to him.

The next night after her usual study session Ece took a seat next to Yagiz on the couch. She scooted closer to him and stared up at him with intentional puppy dog eyes.
"Yagiz, can I ask you something?" Ece asked in an uncharacteristically sweet tone. She wants something, Yagiz concluded. She's too obvious. "Can we stay at the mansion this weekend? I need a break from studying. And I miss my mom."
Yagiz felt like a prisoner in the marriage but realized Ece must feel the same way. Right now all her life consisted of was going to school, coming home, studying, and bickering with him. He didn't know if Ece even had any friends at school. Combined with not being able see her mother or sister on a regular bases and always arguing with him, he imagined she must of felt extremely lonely. At least he got to see his brothers at work. Heck, he even saw Hazan more than Ece did. He felt slightly guilty. Most nights for the past two weeks he purposely made plans to go out for dinner with his friends to avoid Ece. To be fair to himself though, he didn't feel he owed her that attention. She wasn't like a real wife he loved, he saw her as a woman carrying his baby, who happened to live with him.
