Warnings: a lot of fluffyness 💞
。☆✼★━━━━━━━━━━━━★✼☆。
It's funny how they say that lightning never strikes in the same place twice. You'd think love and coincidences would be the same but some how, not with you and Bucky.
You had met Bucky in the '40s, a few years before he had been enlisted through a friend of a friend and immediately fell for him. He was a gentleman, a charmer, and a dreamer. You seemed to change him too; Steve once told you that you made Bucky calmer and more natural somehow. It wasn't weird being around Steve all the time as well as Bucky: he became a little brother to you, a boy you could help and hang out with without it being weird.
Bucky was your rock, your heart, your life. You were so close, sleeping in the same bed to stop any bad dreams, him walking you everywhere after dark to protect you, him taking you on the most beautiful and unconventional dates. You truly loved each other. You were parts of each other. But Bucky was forced into the army. He didn't want to enrol or enlist, especially not as badly as Steve but he was forced to, torn away from you. It broke both your hearts.
But you stuck with Steve and he took you as emotional support when the experiment happened. After that, the two of you were even closer, like siblings for each other. You became friends with Peggy after Steve became Captain America, and tried to set them up. You helped Steve rescue Bucky and his first act as a free man again was to kiss you fiercely.
But that could never have lasted. The end of the war left Peggy believing that you, Bucky and Steve were all dead.
It was almost too coincidental that you were also taken by H.Y.D.R.A in a different accident to Bucky, but you never saw him and he never saw you. That was until the one day he remembered and they told him how they would kill you if he didn't go back under.
And now, things have come full circle. At your door stands a well dressed Bucky, with a large bouquet of roses in his hands, just like your first date together back in the '40s. It's odd, not having any wars to fight, villains to defeat or missions to fulfil.
But it's nice.
It's nice to spend time with Bucky again, and Steve, and all his new friends too; it's nice to be able to remember things; it's nice to be normal.
And what's more normal than going on a date?
You smile, as you accept his flowers and take his hand, swinging it as you walk together.
"I've got the car waiting outside," he tells you. "Your favourite table in your favourite restaurant, all booked up."
"What would I do without you?" You say, smiling as you reach the car. Bucky takes your hand and kisses your knuckles before opening the door for you. You laugh.
All is good. All is well.
