Miyuki's POV
"Is everybody here? I'll do a head count?"
It's seven-fourty-three, I'm outside on the field with almost everyone else in the baseball club. I can't see Furuya or Sawamura, hopefully they're standing somewhere else, and haven't decided to skip today. I don't want to be alone on the bus trip.
"Everyone's here! We're dividing up in into three groups and taking three different buses to the college, we'll regroup when we arrive and then again before be leave to return. Make your way to the bus zone!" Coach yells, leading a pack of tired, coffee-pumped high school students around the school.
Through the raging crowds I spot a familiar face. It's Harucci. I approach him through the waves of people, he notices me and walks towards me as well.
"Hey-, have you seen Sawamura?" I instinctively ask, still looking around for the said boy.
"Ummm" Harucci rambles to himself for a few seconds. "I saw him dash out of his dorm earlier this morning, he looked rather dishelved too. He's probably here somewhere""Ah, thanks anyway"
Why was the first thing that came to my mind to ask someone about Sawamura? Out of everything I could've asked, it just had to be him. I walk up the mini-stairs and on to the bus, where I walk up to the back, the place I typically sit.
"Oh hey Miyuki"
I hear my name called from the seat on my right, It's Sawamura, looking up at me with bags under his eyes. I slide on to the spare seat right next to him, placing my bag down underneath my feet.
"How many hours of sleep did you get last night? You look dead" I joke, nagging and elbowing him in the chest.
"I fell asleep in the bath... I almost drowned...." He scowls, looking at me with his tired expression. I chuckle a bit, making myself comfortable.
"Try again tonight"
"You're so mean!"The bus starts moving, we're in the third one, the last one to take off.. also the one with the least amount of people in it, there can't be more than nine people in here.
I ruffle my hand through my hair, I didn't have anytime to brush it tomorrow so it's probably sitting like mop on top of my head."Miyuki... can I tell you something?" Sawamura asks.
"Huh? Sure?" I talk before I think, sigh, I wonder what he wants.
"You look like a rat, like, a literal rat. One you'd find in the local trash just kinda... wriggling around. When you're in the baseball uniform you look decent, like a perfectly normal teenager, but... without a hat on, I cannot tell the difference between a rodent and you. It's literally impossible. Your face is fine, but whem you have you hair out looking like all that... I can't"
Without uttering a single word, I reach into my bag and grab out one of my baseball caps, and place it over my head on a twenty degree angle.
"I'm never going to take my hat off ever again" I reply in a monotone voice.
Crap, does my hair really look that bad?
Sawamura yawns, before piping up again. "Do you.. want one?" He holds out a box of pocky, with one already hanging loosely out of his mouth.
"Sure" I say, as I grab seven from the box of thirty.
"I SAID ONE YOU IDIOT" Sawamura screeches, tackling me from his seat to reclaim the extra ones I took."Mmmm thanks for the delicious pocky Ei-Chan!" I tease, breaking and shoving all seven pieces inside my mouth.
"Don't call me Ei-Chan! You rat-looking-ass"
I laugh obnoxiously, almost choking on the small pieces of pocky lodged in my throat. "You're so mean Mura-Chan!"
"Don't call me that either!"
