Maria Fernanda
Soon enough, I was standing in front of a man who I never wanted to see again. The kingpin himself, Angels dad.
"You came back, I guess you want to know the whole truth." He said and I nodded in reply.
"Leave us." He said referring to Angel.
He gestured for me to take a seat which I did, because I guessed by the time he would be done with what he had to say, my body wouldn't be able to function.
"How did you get that bruise?" He asked referring to the one Sasha had given me.
"That's not important. Now tell me what I need to know."
"Angeles, my daughter, your sister who you may also know as Freya....."
"Angeles is Freya?" I said in shock as the memory of what Debbie had told me came back.
"Yes, she is. When Angeles ran away from home she was still a minor. The fact that she fled to another country under a different identity didn't make finding her easy." He sighed then continued.
"Eventually I found out she was under the protection of a gang leader, Azriel Knight. Of course as her father I came looking for her knowing she'd be in danger. I sent my men to negotiate with Azriel for her freedom but he refused to let her go."
"Are you sure he refused to let her go or she herself didn't want to leave. She must've been tired of living as a drug lords daughter."
"So you think living with a gang leader who's a stranger is any better?" He asked and I gestured for him to continue.
"I got some information that Azriel was only using Freya. So I eventually got in touch with her and told her but she didn't believe me. That was when your brother found out and kidnapped Deborah Knight in exchange for Freya."
"A sister for a sister." I said.
"Yes. But Azriel refused to let Freya go and well eventually he had a change of heart and let Deborah go."
"A change of heart?" I scoffed in reply. That didnt make sense but what surprised me more was that Azriel was willing to sacrifice his sisters life to be with Freya. Its either he loved Freya too much or he had a really sinister plan in mind.
"Believe it or not your brother isn't as bad as they say. Eventually on the Day of Freya and Azriel's wedding, Freya came to me and told me to take her away from Azriel." He closed his eyes probably picturing the moment.
"Azriel came looking for her, he found both of us. He tried to play on Freya's naivety. Freya believed him and paid the ultimate price, she lost her life a few days after. Azriel killed her."
I looked at him with wide eyes not believing what I had just heard.
"No, its not true." I said in disbelief.
"I'm sure he'll deny it if you ask him and put all the blame on me." He said.
"If he really did kill her, why is he still alive. Why didn't you or even Angel kill him?"
"Freya's last wish was for Azriel's life to be spared. I had to fulfill it." He answered.
"How did Freya.." I trailed off tears clogging my throat. But he understood.
"A bullet to the chest." He replied
"Now that you know the truth, do you really want to keep living with the man who killed your sister and risk suffering the same fate. It's your choice." He finished, asking me the one question on my mind.
............................................................. Hours laterI stood in front of Azriel's mansion, imagining the day Freya must've arrived here.
I sighed as I recollected the conversation I had with Angel a few minutes ago.
"Are you sure you want to confront him?" Angel asked.
"I am." I replied.
"Do you still have the phone I gave you?" He asked and I nodded in reply.
"Here, take this gun. If things go bad call me. If things go horribly and he refuses to let you go don't hesitate to use this gun." I took the gun and nodded in reply.
I walked into the house with a lethal look on my face.
"The princess has finally arrived." Azriel said as he made his way downstairs.
"Where in the world have you been." He said harshly.
"I've been...." He stopped mid sentence as he took in the look on my face.
"Fer..." He started.
The sound of a slap echoed throughout the room cutting him off mid sentence once again.
James and Nathaniel appeared from nowhere with looks of horror on their faces.
"Now tell me Azriel how long were you planning on using me. You made my sister fall for you and then you did the same to me." I said.
"If I had known from the beginning that you two were sisters you wouldn't be here Fer." He said barely above a whisper.
"Did you kill her?" I asked.
Azriel simply nodded in reply. James opened his mouth to object but Nathaniel stopped him and then I knew.
"He said you would deny killing her. Which means one thing. You didn't pull the trigger, he did. But whether you pulled the trigger or not Azriel, you still killed her."
"I know, forgive me Fer." He said.
"I'm leaving Azriel, I can't stay here any longer. As from today, I no longer work for you." I said.
As I was leaving he held my hand, stopping me in my tracks.
"If you've ever cared about me, I beg you Fer please don't go, at least not like this. Just sleep on it."
The look in his eyes made my heart soften but I couldn't be weak at this moment.
"Do you know the most painful thing about this Azriel. It's that you never cared about me. I'm sure that each time you looked at me and each moment you spent with me, you were thinking about Freya. Even that day you saved my life I'm sure you imagined you were saving her life." I said and walked out of his house and out of his life.
I took out my phone and dialed a number.
"I've been waiting for your call." He said.
"Well I'm waiting for you." I replied and hung up.
