On our way home Justin kept on calling me but I ignored him. I didn't want to distract myself from the road, driving needs a hundred percent concentration. As we got home mum headed to her room to sleep, she was tired of the flight. After a while I called Justin back.
"Why weren't you answering?" He asked as he picked up.
"I was driving," I answered.
"So what?"
"I was driving back from the airport and my mum was in the car, I do not like her to hear what we say," I lied. I didn't like lying but I didn't like the idea he might make fun of me for that.
"Alright then, can you come over?" He asked.
"I- I don't even know where your house is," I said quickly.
"Go out of your house," he ordered.
"What?"
"Just do it." I went out.
"Okay."
"Get closer to the street lamp."
"Listen Justin, I'm not in the mood for pranks," I said angrily.
"That's not a prank." I was now standing next to the street lamp.
"And?"
"Look at the house on your left." I looked and saw him from the window, he waved at me. I never knew Justin Adams lived in the neighborhood. I could cross the street and get to his house.
"Come in, what're you waiting?" He said.
"I need to tell my mum first," gosh this sounds like I need permission.
"Okay, I understand." Is that all? I expected more.
I went back home and flew upstairs. I stood next to my mother's door for like five minutes trying to figure out if I really wanted to go. Anxiety was playing a huge role in my brain. I was coming up with thousands of scenarios that might happen there, and I knew all of them were wrong. I prepared my words, my comebacks in case he will roast me, my jokes, his joked, his acts. I also imagined an argument scene and even a physical fight one. I was that extra. My phone vibrated in my hand shaking my whole body and bringing me back to reality. 'Message from Justin: where are you? its been 15mins' the screen said. I then built up courage and went inside.
"Yes Andy, you can go?" Mum said as i opened the door.
"Wow Jennifer, since when do you predict the future?" I joked.
"I heard your anxious thoughts, from behind the door," she said.
'Oh my god was I speaking?' I asked myself.
"Yes you were and you still are," she said, "you need to know the difference between speaking and thinking. Now can you please frick off? I want to sleep."
'She's rude.'
"Yes she is now go outside," she yelled.
"Okay okay." I left the room still shocked. Was I that loud? Oh my God obviously no, she just knows me well and she took advantage of that to make fun of me.
"Shut up Andrew, you are talking and not thinking I'm not a goddess to read your mind," she shouted. I was at the end of the hallway and the room was at the very beginning of it. I just ignored the fact that my mum has this superpower of hearing anything and everything being said in the house when she's here, and remembered the lots of times where she did hear everything. I put on a coat and went outside. I looked at both sides of the road and then crossed it. As I got in front of the door and was about to press the doorbell button the door opened.
"Come in," he invited. I went in and then scanned the whole house. It was a one-floor house with a roof. He led me to his bedroom which was the whole roof. He said he didn't like the living room, it was exposed and he liked privacy. He has a point of view since he has a huge window showing everything to strangers walking by. Even with the curtains people could still see through.
"Do you live alone?" I asked.
"No, I mean yes, it's complicated," he answered.
"I like complicated stuff," I told him.
"Fine," he muttered. "After my dad passed three years ago, I got this house, mum got the other one at the other side of the town. She offered me a sum of money saying that a guy wanted to buy the house but I refused. My dad used to live here since he was like twenty years old until he married mum which was like after fourteen years. And whenever they fought he would come stay here. And now whenever I fight with my mother's boyfriend, I have this house for myself to wait him to apologize."
"Why do you fight with him?" I asked. His face turned to an emotionless kind of annoyed face. I noticed that I was way too curious so I apologized for it.
"It's okay, I was just thinking how to tell you," he explained. "So my so called 'future' stepdad is an alcoholic person. He's a weed addict, and he vapes a lot. Whenever you enter to our house, I mean my mother's house you see any kind of alcohol drinks everywhere with toxic clouds in the air."
"I'm sorry," I said. I didn't know what else to do. Go punch his step father?
"It's fine," he said. "So why was your mum at the airport, and why did Clay leave?"
"I- how did you know he left?" I asked furiously.
"I saw him and..."
"Are you stalking me?" I shouted as I stood up. "Wow Justin good job, I thought you wanted to help me and now I realized you was nothing different." I headed to the stairs wanting to leave but he grabbed my by the wrist and threw me on the couch.
That was... sexy?
I didn't know but I liked it.
"He called me and told me he was leaving, he wanted me to take care of you," he said calmly with a bit of anger in his tone. I wanted more like what just happened.
"That's still not a reason to stalk me," I shouted trying to seem more furious than before. I stood up and rushed to the stairs, and it all happened again. He grabbed my wrist and threw me on the couch. I sat there looking up at him. He then came in my direction. He kneeled on the couch, his left leg on my right side and his right leg on my left side. He bent down and I felt his breathe on my ear.
"You're going nowhere," he whispered in my ear.
I liked this.
