Door to peace

"I will come to you. I promise."

Hilal was caressing a photograph of Leon in her hand while remembering their parting words to each other. A small smile playing on her lips with the memory. She took his photo from the spy assignment file she had at the last moment when she left with Ali Kemal and Mehmet from the house. 

It's now had been two days since then. They crossed the Ocren border and now in the other neighbouring country called Olympia. Many people from both Eskor and Ocren took refuge to Olympia during this war. The Olympians welcomed the refugees with open arm cause they were going through a population crisis during this period too and the refugees from both Eskor and Ocren helped to develop the Olympian economy and some of them even became permanent citizen to Olympia.

Hilal was also planning to come here and settle down after the Eskor spy headquarters release her from her duties. She already had some friends here from Eskor who settled down here and who promised to help her too when she reach Olympia. She met Lutfu, Cezmi and Usman during a spy mission and saved their lives. She also helped them to escape to Olympia at that time. Currently, she is staying at Lutfu's house before she finds a job here to support her and Mehmet. 

"Leon, Leon." 

Hilal looked down and saw Mehmet pointing at the photo in her hand and smiling widely while saying Leon's name. His smile made Hilal smile involuntarily too.

"Yes, Mehmet this is Leon," she said to the little boy but at the same time a new thought came to Hilal's mind. How did Mehmet know Leon's name? Not only did he know his name but the way he was saying it seems like he liked him very much too. But how?

Hilal stood up and went to find Ali Kemal for some answers. Ali Kemal smiled when he saw Hilal approaching him.

"How did Mehmet know Leon?" Hilal demanded.

Hearing the question the smile died on Ali Kemal's face. He began to fidget. 

"Ali Kemal, what did you not tell me?" 

"It was him okay. It was Leon who went to Eskor and rescued Mehmet from the headquarters and brought him to Ocren."

"He went all the way to Eskor? He risked his life for Mehmet?"

"Yes, Hilal."

"Why didn't you tell me this before?"

"I didn't think it mattered much."

"Of course you would think that."

"Hilal, the future between him and you is uncertain. Don't you want someone to protect you and stay with you here? God knows when this war will end. What if it never ends? You can't wait for him for eternity." 

"If that what it takes then so be it. I will wait for him even if it takes an eternity. And I don't need anyone to protect me Ali Kemal. I can protect myself very well."

"So that is your final answer to me Hilal?"

"I gave you an answer a long time ago and it didn't change. It was you who clung on to false hope."

Ali Kemal shook his head frustratedly and then said, "I hope you don't regret your decision later Hilal. I promised the Captain that I will take you to someplace safe and I kept my promise. I will go back to Eskor now. Goodbye." 

"Goodbye Ali Kemal."

Leon was sitting inside the cold prison cell. After his arrest he was immediately taken before the officials for a trial. All the evidence against him was strong enough to prove that he was colluding with the Eskorian spy office. Leon couldn't say anything in his defence cause he knew that it will jeopardize Hilal and Mehmet's lives instead. He is now awaiting the decision of the higher officials but he already knew what their decision is gonna be.
