Red earth white lies

Hilal woke up early after a restless night. Her mind was already distracted last night and on top of that, the arrival of Ali Kemal with flowers added extra stress on her. No matter how indifferent she tries to act that guy would not get a hint. She can't be downright rude to him cause he did so much for her in the past but his aggressive pursuit of her is starting to irritate her now. What was he thinking coming here with flowers? If anybody saw him and got suspicious her whole mission will be ruined.

She got up from the bed and saw the flower bouquet on the table from last night. He brought Lilies, her least favourite and they are already beginning to wilt. Hilal picked up the flowers with a sigh and went out to throw them away before they start to stale up the room. She was returning to her home after throwing the flowers when something caught her eyes. She walked up to the tree nearby and saw a beautiful red rose on the ground. Who would've thrown away such a beauty she thought. She picked the flower up and cleaned up the dirt on it. Roses are her favourite especially red roses, so Hilal felt a slight sadness for whoever threw the flower away. She took it home and put it in a vase carefully.

Hilal closed her eyes and smelled the rose. An image of the handsome Captain flashed before her eyes. Why are you haunting me even in my imagination? Why do I feel this way about you? Go away, she silently scowled at the mental image of him in her mind.

Leon woke with one hell of a hangover. He drank to oblivion last night after he came back from in front of her house. He dreamt about her too, he could hear her singing. He searched for her everywhere but all he could hear is her voice. But even in his dream, he couldn't reach her.

Why do you affect me so much? Why thinking about you with some other guy pains me so much? I don't even know you well? What is this witchcraft? He wondered to himself.

A knock on his door made him groan. Who is knocking so early in the morning? He slowly got up and opened the door. A soldier greeted him.

"Captain, there has been an emergency in one of the bunkers."

"What happened?"

"A bomb exploded and many people got injured. Some are still trapped inside. Commander Filipos ordered you to handle the situation."

The news got Leon going at once. He promptly put on his uniform and mounted on his horse outside to get to the bunker as fast as possible.

Once he was at the bunker there was chaos everywhere. He quickly went to the explosion site and saw the situation. The explosion almost closed the opening of one of the bunker and there are two man inside it.

"There is no other way corporal. Let me inside."

Leon can hear a female arguing with one of the soldiers. That voice. He can recognize that voice anywhere. The same voice that haunted in his dreams. What is she doing here? Leon thought to himself while approaching the bunker. The soldiers cleared the way for him and he could finally see the small women with an angry expression on her face.

"What seems to be the problem here soldier?" Leon asked.

"Captain, the nurse is insisting on entering the bunker to aid the soldiers inside. I told her it's too risky and to wait here until we brought them out," the corporal informed Leon after saluting him.

Hilal was getting frustrated by the moment. If she can't enter the bunker soon those lives will be lost. Seeing Leon a ray of hope came to her mind. Surely he can understand her.
