A Cognate Thing-a sophitz story

When abilities were off the table playing basequest was actually really hard against Marella and Linh. They had played 4 games and it was split 2-2. Linh was surprisingly fast and Marella was quick to dodge.

“Up for one more?” Marella asked as they caught their breath.

“I say we go see what treats Edaline has been making, and then we can give Sophie a makeover!” Biana exclaimed. “Besides it is going to get dark soon.”

“Bleh, seriously why is it always a makeover for me?” Sophie answered with an eyeroll.

“Because it drives you crazy, and you always look amazing when we are done.” Linh replied very serenely.

The group of girls headed in and raided Edaline’s fresh baked goodies before heading back up to Sophie's room. Each girl had a plate filled with yummy treats from mallowmelt to custard bursts, there was so many choices!

“What is it going to take to not get a makeover tonight?” Sophie asked, seriously why was it always a makeover.

“How about a game of 20 questions? We get to ask you whatever we want but it has to be a yes or no answer.” Marella suggested as an option.

Sophie weighed the options in her head, makeover or be subjected to answering her friends questions.

“Not 20 but you can each have 1 question, yes or no only, and everyone has to take a turn.” Sophie offered up as a compromise.

Linh, Marella and Biana all looked at one another, would they be willing to share their secrets? After some whispers and glances back and forth the girls agreed everyone got to ask 1 question starting with Linh.

“Linh,” Marella started mischievously, “do you have a crush on anyone?”

Pausing Linh looked away before answering, “yes.”

Biana and Marella squealed.

“Does he know you like him?” Sophie asked without thinking about the game.

“No,” Linh answered quietly almost like she was sad.

Pausing to think of a good question Biana finally came up with, “does Tam have a crush on anyone?”

Linh thought for a second, “yes.”

Sophie ready to ask a follow up question about Tam realized she she had already asked hers. This game was going to be harder than she thought.

After a small discussion Marella went next. Sophie was glad for the distance in her turn.

“Do you still have any negative feelings about when we weren't friends?” Sophie asked.

“Nope.” Marella quickly answered shaking her head. Sophie was visibly relieved.

“Do you think my brother is hot?” Linh asked.

“Yes, are there people who don't?” Marella deadpanned.

“Have you told anyone else you are a pyrokinetic?” Biana wondered.

“Yes.” Marella said softly.

“Who? Sophie inquired, that was a huge thing to tell someone.

“You already asked your question, so it is still my secret!” Marella replied smugly.

“I'll go next, I'm still figuring out what to ask Sophie!” Biana volunteered.

“Do you have a crush on someone in Sophie’s picture?” Marella asked motioning at the painting Keefe had done for Sophie.

“Yes,” Biana giggled.

“Do you ever vanish and spy on Fitz?” Sophie asked.

“Yes and you can't tell him.” Biana snapped back.

“Fine but he is going to catch you one time, so you better be ready for the consequences.” Sophie answered back.

“Do you have a crush on Tam?” Linh asked.

Biana started to blush and vanish at the same time but a faint, “yes” could be heard in the room while Linh started to laugh.

Finally the moment of truth was here, Biana could at least get one question answered she was dying to ask Sophie.

“Oh me first,” Marella said with an evil glint in her eye making Sophie scared for what was coming next. “Have you and Fitz kissed yet?”

Sophie cocked her head, technically speaking they did kiss each other on the cheek, but their lips hadn’t touched. “No, Fitz hasn't kissed my lips.”

Biana was shocked Sophie offered up more than just the no, maybe there was more to that answer but is that what she wanted her one question to be?

“Are you excited to move to the towers next year?” Linh asked.

“Is that really your question, of course she is, why else would she be doing 2 levels in one?” Marella interjected without giving Sophie a chance to speak. All three girls turned to look at Sophie.

“No.” Sophie answered the girls shocked faces begged for an explanation. “I love living here at Havenfield and the thought of moving out right now makes me sad. I do want to do the elite levels but it will be hard to move there.”

Sophie looked at Biana wondering what her question would be, would she go for the obvious choice or try and figure something out in a subtle way. Sophie hand went to tug at her eyelashes before pausing. She was trying really hard not to do that anymore. Here it was the question she was dreading more than a makeover.

“Are you in love with Fitz?”

Sophie wasn't sure Biana was going to be ok with her answer and for a brief second considered lying to her friends.

“No.”
