Fitz lay on his bed, surrounded by his books that he was supposed to be studying from but all he could do was hold Ella and replay his conversation with Sophie. What was she thinking about him changing his mind. Was she doubting that he likes her or was she worried about being cognates since he couldn't loop into her mind. Maybe after she told him her secret he would be able to. That had to be why he couldn't loop into her mind, his subconscious couldn't trust her completely because she was holding something back. He was always open and honest and so her subconscious knew to trust Fitz. That made sense, but why would Biana be asking her questions about he and Sophie being cognates?

Fitz was still lost in his thoughts when Keefe came sulking through the door.

“Think your parents would let me crash at Everglen this weekend? Apparently my dad filed the match fail papers and someone actually wanted to go on a date with him. I do NOT want to be anywhere near him and his feelings. Yuck, I gag at the very thought of my dad,” Keefe paused. “Nope not even going to go there, just yuck.”

“I'm sure it's fine, they mentioned going to Atlantis for a family dinner on Friday night but I haven't heard for sure if it is happening, I'm sure you could tag along.”

“What no date with Foster the second you get released? How will you ever survive?” Keefe said mimicking a lady’s voice and raising the back of his hand to his forehead like he was going to pass out or something.

“What is that all about?” Fitz questioned giving Keefe the you are so weird look.

“My empath mentor had me watch some stupid human movies trying to figure out emotions from watching them to pick up cues. The whole thing was stupid because hello they are movies totally fake emotions. It was weird but kind of reminded me of what Fintan made me do back when,” Keefe’s face blanked when he caught the look Fitz was giving him. “Yeah, not going to think about that time either.”

Keefe flipped Fitz's desk chair around so he was sitting on it backwards his arms draped across the back and sat in silence collecting his thoughts before starting back on his train of thought.

“But no date with Foster, trouble in Vackerland?”

“No I asked her out for Saturday, I'm still trying to figure out what to do, a lot of things just seem so predictable or boring and I don't want her to be bored.”

“Yeah Foster has lived through some pretty crazy stuff since she got here, I mean she had to relearn everything she thought she knew didn't exist and still managed to squash a rebellion by the time she was 15. I can see why you don't want to bore her with staring into your eyes.”

“Keefe you're a genius!”

“Well I wouldn't go so far to say genius, clever and charming yes, brilliant and fun loving definitely, stunningly good looking absolutely but genius? Ok maybe I am, glad you finally realized it. But what am I a genius about?”

“You gave me the perfect idea for a date with Sophie, I just need to get a few things figured out by Saturday. Oh and I’ll have my dad let your dad know your staying over when I talk to him tomorrow.”

“Great the less I have to talk with him the better, but what idea did you get from me, are you and Sophie going to create a rebellion to free the towers, let the students come and go as they please, because that is a rebellion I can get behind. I don't know how I am going to do 10 weeks straight before midterms. Speaking of midterms, can I grab your notes from multispecial studies, I am slacking and not having a goblin bodyguard is definitely a disadvantage. Ro talked nonstop about the Orges but do you think that helps me now, not at all!”

“Sure go ahead, they are on my desk. I can help answer any questions you may have as well. I better get back to my own studies.” Fitz said as he sat up and set Ella down next to him, picking up his books to study. One more week and he could see Sophie again, hold her hand again, smell the panakes blossoms that surrounded her again. Fitz sat there and realized how much he missed her and didn't know how he was going to make it until he could be near her again.
