Chapter Five: Queen

"Max, Where did mummy and daddy go?" The young girl asked as she stood out her home. Queen Manor. Her hair tied in a ponytail and getting blown in the wind. She was about six. Her brother was about ten. 

He looked at his younger sister biting his lip. "They went to save people..." Max replied. 

"When will they be back?" Ruby asked shivering in the cold. 

"I-I don't know Ruby" Max said his voice sore from all the shouting he had done. He had saw the woman wearing black. The woman who had knocked their parents out and dragged them away. 

Max was frozen to a spot. It had been fifteen minutes. Richard had left running. He had said how she could still be saved. Still live. Felicity was hurriedly trying to find any technology on the area that could distract the two. Hoping Oliver wouldn't suffer the same fate as Ruby. 

Max began to shiver. As if it had suddenly started snowing his body felt cold and he couldn't stop shaking. He stumbled. Felicity looked at him and got up and grabbed his arms but his body was too heavy. He fell against the wall and slide down. Nothing was medically wrong with Max. His eyes were distant. His hands still shaking. 

His eyes grew red and sore. He blinked a few times in an effort to stop the inevitable. Then for the first time since he was ten. He gave up and let the tears fall. His lip twitched and he howled in trauma.

Oliver hadn't been bound so he rushed to Ruby's side putting pressure on her wound. No one stopped him. Milla watched a cruel smile on her face. Ruby was fighting for her life. Her instincts taking over. She didn't let her body go into shock and the bullet hadn't made an exit wound so she was as lucky as she could get in this situation. Still there was a ninety to ten percent chance she would die. She needed a miracle. 

Milla looked up at Kane "Your men are to stop no escape attempts made by these four, I want to see if Miss Queen makes it" Milla said throwing the revolver beside Wally. Kane frowned under his mask but did as she said and then followed her back to her office.

Wally slipped his hands out the restraints and got the gun and then released John. They ran over to Ruby. "Max has medical training, If we can manage to get her back to the Manor, She might have a chance" Wally said. 

Richard came running in wearing a blue hood similar to Ruby's. "I stole a van from off the street we need to get her inside" Richard said. He had black make up smeared across his eyes as some make shift mask. 

Oliver was still stunned at what he had heard. 'Ruby Queen' a family member. How was she related to him though? Was it a cousin, maybe Thea had a daughter and it was his niece... His mind was racing at a million times a second but one thing was clear in his mind he needed to save her life. 

Oliver carefully lifted her head while keeping pressure on her neck and Richard lifted her body and John listed the legs. Wally ran quickly to the van and opened the doors for them while they lay her inside. Wally closed the doors and jumped into the driving seat beginning to drive.

"They are taking her somewhere, Hopefully a hospital" Felicity said.

"The closest hospital isn't for miles, They are coming here" Max said standing up. His face was dry now as he began to walk out the room. Felicity followed the computers no longer useful. 

"Why would they be coming here?" Felicity asked. 

"I studied medicine for a while I even went to medical school for a year but dropped out when things got bad here" Max explained. He ran down stairs and turned into the old dinning room. There was no longer a dinning table. There was a metal table stained with blood. Next to it was movable and it was littered with medical instruments. Scalpels, clamps, pills and a whole lot more.

Max walked up to Felicity and took her hand. "You have a steady hand" He said. "I need you to help me with Ruby" He said looking at her. 

"I wouldn't know what to do I've never studied medicine-" Felicity began to ramble but Max stopped her.

"I will tell you what to do, I just need you to be there, to help me save her life" Max told her but it came out more as a plead. She looked at him and nodded. 

"Okay" She said. 

The doors slammed open in the queen mansion and Max wiped all emotion from his mind and thought like he should like a doctor. He got them to lay her on the table and him and Felicity stayed in the room while the others waited outside. Minutes passed which turned into hours that felt like days.

Oliver stared into the distance thinking. He got up and walked up the stairs. Wally watched him and looked at John. "She will live, Ruby is a fighter, She's lived through worse" Wally told him. 

"Tell that to Max, I could see it in his eyes, He was ready to lose her" John said.

Oliver entered Ruby's room. He looked around at all the things he had never noticed before. This used to be Thea's room. It was the same bed and the shape was the same. It was in the same place in the building. He walked over to the arrows and where his bow was and looked at the carvings in it. 

He then turned and noticed a black metal box under Ruby's bed. He walked over and picked up the box and opened it. Several pictures were there. One of which he assumed was Ruby as a baby and Max as a toddler holding her. Another of a little girl who looked like ruby hugging a man. That man was Oliver. He turned the photo over and it read:

                        "October, 9th, 2026,

                        Ruby + Dad"
