[Kady POV]
It was Christmas Eve and so far it seemed like my parents were still going to be here for Christmas. Although I resented them for being such awful and absent parents over the years, it warmed my heart that we could spend an actual holiday together before Jason and I went off to college.
I was wrapping gifts in my bedroom for my parents since I felt jolly and happy for Christmas for once. I could give them my gifts and see the look on their faces and actually spend time with them since that's something that never happens.
Of course I would always have Jason but even with just us two, and sometimes Luke, it gets lonely in this big old house, especially around the holidays. I hear a slight knock on the door before Jason walks in.
"Oh, dude come on! I could've been wrapping your presents!"
He rolls his eyes and sits on the edge of my bed, next to me.
"Yeah right. I know you sis. You've gotten my gifts like months in advanced and I know they've been wrapped since Thanksgiving."
I stick my tongue out at him and continue with taping my mother's gift. It was a shadow box of all the small memories we have made together. I truly only needed a shadow box since we have hardly spent any quality, and memory making time together. I thought it was a sweet gesture though and loved making it nonetheless.
"What's up anyway?" I ask. Jason looks up from his phone, blinking for a moment trying to recall why he was in my room in the first place.
"Oh, right right. Megan and Adikya are throwing a party at Megan's. A big old Christmas Eve thing. I'm invited which of course means you're invited. So, you're coming?"
I finish my wrapping and smile proudly at the gift. "Actually no, sorry J. Mason is coming over. He said he wanted to talk but I'm assuming it's about which house we're going over to for New Years or something, then we'll probably watch movies" Mason finally did text me. It was short and weird and all it said was "Can we talk." I tried to call him but he wouldn't answer. It was only that text. I didn't like it.
He sighs and gets up "How gross" He's halfway out the door when I stop him "Call me if you need a ride or anything though"
"Yeah yeah"
I toss my roll of tape at him, forcing him to face me. Slightly annoyed, slightly amused, he raises his eyebrows.
"Jason, I'm serious."
"Oh my god, I know Kady, I know. Thank you, I'm leaving in like 10 minutes by the way"
I nod and drag my dad's nice new yeti cooler over to my wrapping station. "Have fun" I mumble as Jason closes my door. I dig around in my comforter and through all my wrapping supplies for a good five minutes before realizing the tape was still on the ground, all the way by my door. I grumble and heft my lazy ass from my bed to retrieve it when I hear the doorbell ring.
I check my clock, it was only 10. Mason wasn't supposed to be over until at least 30 minutes after that. I fling open my door and run down the stairs since Jason was currently bathing in his cologne he claims is "a lady magnet." I peep through the curtains on the windows by the door, just in case it actually wasn't someone I knew but alas, it was. I open the door.
"Luke"
"Kadence" I step aside and usher him in. It was freezing and of course he was only wearing his signature leather jacket as a cover up. He steps in the foyer as I close the door behind him, he rubs his hands together to create some heat, not really looking at me.
