[Kady POV]

lots of mistakes, not proofread, sorry.

I throw my stuff down next to the empty chair beside me. Slumping down and I rest my face on the surface of the table.

What in the actual fuck?! I'm mad at Luke, I'm mad at Ruby, but mostly I am mad at myself. I run my fingers through my hair and let out a big sigh. I hear someone sit next to me and I look up slowly, it's Mason and he smiles at me slightly when I do so.

"You okay?" He asks, his voice full of concern but it also had a little edge to it.

I nod and give him one of my fakest smiles, he pats my hand and starts digging around in his backpack. I watch him take out his notes and focus on them. Closing my eyes, I pinch the bridge of my nose, I just really wanted to get home.

"Do you mind if I sit with you guys?" I look up and see Chelsea, I nod and motion to the chair in front of us and she gratefully takes the seat. Out of the corner of my eye I see Mason sit up taller and clear his throat. I look at him and scowl, nudging my knee with his. He looks at me when I do this and just shakes his head, clenching his jaw.

Why is he being so weird?

"Attention all seniors, can you please report down to the auditorium. Principal Stewart has a surprise for you" The intercom blares loudly. I roll my eyes, yay and an assembly? Just my luck.

"Great" I mutter, grabbing my bag. Chelsea jumps up and is right by my side. I didn't care to wait for Mason because frankly I didn't want to talk to anyone anymore today. But I guess the new girl had different ideas.

"A surprise?" Chelsea asks out of breath from trying to keep up with my fast pace. I nod and she and I get sucked into the crowd of seniors all heading to the same building. There wasn't a ton of seniors but still enough to have a good crowd of us.

"Probably something stupid, don't get too excited" I reply dryly, hiking my bag up on my shoulder. I grab the door to the auditorium and hold it for Chelsea, she says thank you and follows me down to the first row. I get comfortable and sit back, watching the principal stand by the podium talking to some guy behind her, a large smile plastered on her face.

"What do you think it is?" She asks in my ear, making me jump slightly. I tilt my head and purse my lips, watching Mrs. Stewart laugh with the stranger. I shrug and dig out my phone opening up a game of flappy bird.

"She's probably getting a new office or some shit that she wants to rub in everyone's faces" I mumble

"Thanks for waiting for me" Mason says out of nowhere and sitting on the other side of me. I look at him but make no move to say anything.

"Sorry" I mutter after a while, sliding my phone back into my jeans.

"That's okay, so why do you think we're down here?" He asks getting comfortable and setting his bag in between his feet on the ground.

Why did everyone assume I had answers. I shrug once again.

"Attention" Mrs. Stewart says into the podium microphone loudly, tapping it in the process. The chatter does not stop.

"Attention!" She yells. It's like a light switch and the noise immediately ceases. She smooths out her light beige pencil skirt and smiles happily. Whatever this was, she must be really glad it's happening.

"I've called you down today because I have a major major surprise and I guess... reward for all your hard work last year" She says, her voice smooth and elegant, almost sounding too refined for a hick town principal like herself.
