Why can't you be mine?

Chapter 17

{Yaoyorozu's POV}

Today's the day I've been anticipating all my life... well, maybe that's just exaggerating it, I've only been exaggerating it for a week but still the thought has been killing me inside. If you don't know what I'm so panicked about, I'll gladly tell you. Today... I'll be meeting his mom and now you must be saying, 'Yaoyorozu, it's dumb to be so anxious about meeting someone's mom' Let me just tell you, I would agree too if the mom was someone else's but unfortunately it's Todoroki's. I have no idea what made Todoroki think and decide on such a horrendous idea and stupid me for agreeing without thinking things through which I have to say isn't like me at all.

I looked through my closet trying to find the perfect piece of clothing to wear. Something simple yet something that represents me and at last I find one. I begin to style my hair, in an attempt to try and look different from my usual, instead of tied up hair, I casually leave it open and as I was slowly combing it, my phone starts to ring. "Hello?" I ask. "Yaoyorozu, you ready?" he asks. I stop in my tracks and ask, "Ready? As in now? We're going to meet your mom now?"

"Yes, I'm actually waiting outside the gates of the Academy." he says. "O-oh, I'll be outside in a moment" I say as I end the call and hurriedly go outside to meet Todoroki. I see him patiently waiting outside the gate with both his hands tucked inside his pockets. I stand behind him and tap his shoulder. "Todoroki?" he turns while giving off a look that shows awestruck. "Is something wrong with how I look? Should I change into something more formal?" I ask beginning to panic.

"What you have on is amazing Yaoyorozu. There's absolutely no need of changing." he tells. "Then what's with the look?" I ask. "Oh, it's just that, I don't normally get to see you with your hair down. It's usually tied up in a spiky ponytail so seeing it down kind of surprised me" he explains. "Does it look that bad? I can tie it right now. Yes, I'll do that, give me a second" I say, gathering my hair prepared to be tied. "No, don't. It suits you" he assures while taking both my wrists and setting it down.

"Come on, let's go. She's been looking forward to seeing you" He says as he takes my hand and leads me to the hospital where his mother has been staying in. He lead me through several flights of stairs and in just a few moments we were already standing right in front of his mothers room. "You ready?" he asks. I immediately straighten my clothes and unfold and creases that existed. "Yaoyorozu, you look great. Stop panicking." he assures me.

He takes my hand while he uses the other to pull down on the door handle, opening the door which leads to Todoroki's very own mother or as I like to say, the woman who's about to make my heart jump out of my throat out of panic. "Mom, this is Yaoyorozu, Yaoyorozu Momo. You wanted to meet her." he tells his mom. "Hello... Ma'am" I greet trying to hide my anxiousness as much and as best as I can. "Yaoyorozu, there's no need for formalities. Just call me anything you want apart from ma'am. You can even call me your future mother-in-law" she teases.

I see this is where Todoroki gets the teasing from. Wait... Mother-in-law? I hear Todoroki choke at his own mother's words and says "Moooom" "I'm just teasing you guys but you know, I wouldn't mind getting Yaoyorozu as my daughter-in-law." she says. "Yaoyorozu, dear, take a seat." I walk towards the empty chair beside her bed and sit down while Todoroki stand behind me. "So Yaoyorozu, I see you're a good friend of my son, are you sure there's nothing more to it?" she asks. "He is a very good friend of mine and recently I just discovered he has been admiring another girl from my class"

"Oh really, Shoto never mentioned this" she says looking up at Shoto. "I didn't tell you cause it wasn't true" "He keeps denying it, Mrs. Todoroki" I continue to say. I hear Todoroki grunt behind me while his mother stares at him as if reading and obtaining information from him. "Well, how about you dear? Do you have anyone in mind?" she asks. "Actually I do" and as those words leave my mouth, I hear Todoroki say "I'll... Be back in a moment, excuse me" "Who's the lucky guy and why do you like this person? I promise I won't tell, not even Shoto" she says eager to find out who I was so interested in.

"Well, I like this person because he simply makes me feel comfortable in my own skin. He takes care of me and boosts my confidence when needed. He may seem to have a cold demeanor but I know he has a heart of gold" I surprisingly say. "And he is?" she asks. "... Your son" I confess as I put my head down. "I knew it" she says. "Huh?" I say surprised. "All I have to say is, tell him before it's too late and to be honest, I wouldn't want any other woman for my son. I can see that you truly care for him and that's the type of woman I want my son to be with." she says placing her hands on top of mine. "Besides, I'm sure you have a good shot"

Todoroki finally returns back with a paper bag filled with food. "Mom, we better get going. Aizawa sensei might kill us if we don't make it back in time." "Alright, take care you two and Yaoyorozu, go for it. I believe in you" she says. I nod my head eagerly as Todoroki and I head out back to the dorms in the Academy. "Go for it?" he asks. "I'll tell you when the time is right" I respond.
