{School Hallway}

I unpack my bag, but end up shoving everything in my locker (I'm not much of a neat person).

While I did that I could tell that Cameron and Libby were trying to mouth their words around me since I'm in between of course.

"You know you guys can talk, right?" I said rolling my eyes. "I don't care if I hear you." They look at me and then start to talk.

Then as they left Tyler came walking over to me. I knew he was coming, but as I reach up to the top shelf he comes running over yelling my name.

  "Kara, Kara, what happened to your stomach?" He asked. Oh yeah I forgot I wore a crop top to school.

  "Hey, I'm fine, just chucked a lacrosse ball of the wall." I said.

  "Is it about me?" He asks. I look down, he can always read my mind can't he?

  "No, I'm fine. It's not about you," I lied. He grabs my waist and brings me into a hug. "Okay fine."

  "Kara," he says, but gets cut off from the bell.

  "I should go," I say pushing him away even though we have the same class and he sits right behind me.

{English}

  I sit down in my seat as Tyler walks through the door. He sits down and wraps his arms around me, his hands flat on my chest. I squirm around and he finally gets the point to let go.

{Social Studies}

"Here we go again," I say rolling my eyes as I sit right down next to Alexa.

"Oh hey Kara!" She says.
"Um, hi?" I didn't know what to say. She is probably working herself into what she needs to say next about Tyler.

"So, I heard about," she tried to start, but I cut her off.
"About Tyler? Yeah I figured, he's all yours if you want him," I said angry.

She looks at me shocked like I would never say that, but wasn't I right about "it's complicated?" She turns back to he front of the room, not saying anything for the rest of the period.

Just as I was turning back to the front someone grabbed my arm. I look over and see Jake.

"Hey what was that about?" He asks.
"Oh nothing, I'll tell you later." I say.
"Okay, by the way I have to tell you something too," he says, but looks a little unsure.
"Okay sounds good," I turn back to the front and now start paying attention.

{Physics}

Two periods passed and now I'm sitting next to Tyler again. I could tell he's a little disappointed, but I don't look at him.

He reaches over and puts his hand on my thigh and looks down.

"Yeah Tyler, I get it I'm thick," I sigh.

He chuckles, "Kara, how can I make it so you're not mad at me?"

"I'm not mad, we both agreed to break up, why should I be mad?" I ask.

"Because you're acting like it now and earlier in English," he says.

"I'm just worried. You're basically up for grabs now and I don't like it," I state.

"Well, since you're my girl I promise I won't date anyone else. Besides, it's Senior year and it would be a waste to go out because we'd be leaving for college once we graduate. And you never follow your date to the same college because that never goes well," he says assuring.

I smile because he said I was is girl.

It seems like once we broke up because we were becoming "distant," we became closer even if it wasn't in a good matter.

{Lunch}

  I decide not to go to lunch today. Instead I went with Jake off campus to Wendy's. We drove in my car.

  We order our food and sit down at a booth table. Seems like the same one Tyler and I sat in back in freshman year, when he had his incident.

  "So Jake, you know that Tyler and I broke up right?" I ask.

  "Wait, really? I didn't know that. Sorry," he says.

  "Oh no it's fine, we just didn't think it was going to work out, so we both broke up with each other."

  "When did this happen?"

  "Yesterday - First Day of Senior year."

  "Wow, I'm sorry. So I guess this leads to what you need to tell me about from Social Studies today?" He asks.

  "Yup," I start. "Alexa has always been over Tyler, you know that, and whenever she does talk to me it's always about him. So I finally shoved it in her face saying that, which I assumed you and the whole class heard." He nods his head yes, but I really don't care if they did.

  "But you do know she's gonna get with him soon, right?"

  "Well I hope not because Tyler made a promise to me that he won't go out with anyone since it's a waste - it's senior year," I said.

  We continue to eat and as we were finishing I ask, "So what did you want to tell me, too?"

  "Oh, um well, after what you just said, I think it will be a big mistake," he says as he shakes his head no.

  "Jake, I'm your best friend, you'll never make me mad," I say trying to cheer him up.

  "Okay, well first I just want you to know, I'm always here for you when Tyler isn't even now that you're broken up. I knew Tyler from my childhood and he never likes to keep his promises. But if he does hook up with Alexa or anyone, I'll be here for you, on your side."

  I smile and blush a little.

  Jake continues, "I know that you just said dating in Senior year is a waste since you're going to college and you shouldn't follow your date because that never goes right, but," he says catching his breath, while I realize that's exactly what Tyler said. "I like you," he finishes.

  He drops his head while I smile a lot right now. I knew Jake had a crush, but I never knew it was me.
