Chapter 9

Caleb's POV

"We have too. You know that right."

"Yeah I guess," I reply. I know if we want her back we'd have to talk to him but I don't want to. Though Cara insists.

"Let's go then."

Cara drives in one of the Erudite solar power cars to the most dreaded place on Earth. I thought I'd never come back here to, the Fringe, but stranger things have happened.

Together we walk down the to familiar hallways to his office.

I see the wooden door looming in front of and all I can think is the man, who killed my sister is behind that door. Cara has to knock for me.

"Come in."

Cara does all the talking. I mean she has to cause my mouth seems to be glued shut.

"Hi, Sir. Uhh David. My name is Cara and this my friend and colleague Caleb. We have come here to consult you for..."

"Yes. Yes. I know you two we have met before. You were the kids who set off the memory serum. Your friend, Tris, died. I shot her, I shot Natalie's daughter. And you are both here because you are trying to make her heart beat again with a serum to allow her to live. Yes I know."

We stare at him gape mouthed. I feel my mouth tug against the imaginary glue.

"What do you mean you know? You remember?

"Well, of course. I've had memory serum injected into me so in case some hooligans like you tried to erase everyone's memory I would remember. I am not a total doofus. And now you want to revive Tris's life as I stated before, make her heart beat again?"

"Yes," I barely croak.

"Well, too late then."

Disappointment washes over me,"Too late? It cannot be to late."

"O, on the contrary my friend. It is to late to make death serum to allow her to live again. But it is not to late to make Natalie's daughters heart beat again. Never to late."

Cara and I look at him a look of confusion on our faces, which is rare.

"Hmph, guess I will have to show you then. Come along."

We start to follow him to God knows where. Though I don't trust him, I'll do as I must to save her.

As we walk I hear him mumble,"Are you sure Erudite?"
