Chapter 14 - Back to normal?

You hesitantly run through the hallways in this lab, trying to navigate yourself through it. But it didn't work at all. The sirens hurting your ears you feel lightly dizzy and trip over more and more.

"God damn it! What are those idiots doing? Having a picnic?" You look down at the fragile boy you hold in your arms. "Don't worry I'll get us out of here, no matter what!" The boy lightly grumbles as he's wanting to sleep more, this scene makes you chuckle. "Well, I hope I could be that light headed in this situation."

You run another five minutes finding finally a part of the building you didn't recognize, it seems to lead into a great hall. A big double door separating the hall and the path you're standing in, without thinking, you open the door with your body weight and fall over as the door gives in. Landing on your butt and Mob on your lap, you managed to hold his head so it won't meet the ground. Before your brain could even handle the situation a black cat lands on your chest and clinches onto it.

"(Y/N)-chan...", Pack sobs, "I thought I would never see you again... I'm so happy!"

You stroke the little furball and with a soft voice you say. "I'm alright, I'm glad you're okay, too." As the spirit lifts its head you smile brightly at it. "I'm really fine, just exhausted a little. And this position is a little uncomfortable, just let me get up."

You carefully lay Mob on the ground, as you stand up you look at the others that seem to be highly concentrating. Ritsu and Teruki stand in front of a big metal-glas-ball filled with, what seems to be, a rainbow colored liquid. The older man kneeled in front of a monitor and a keyboard, furiously pushing on it.

When Ritsu sees his older brother he runs towards you, he examines Mob quickly then looks up to you. "Don't worry, (L/N)-san. He's just exhausted. He'll wake up in a few hours and the fever will go down shortly..."

You sigh in relief. "Good news... Thank you..."

"Wait... Why does he have a bruise on his forehead...?"

"Really? I don't know why..." You look to the side, a sweat drop flowing from your forehead.

Failed to enter manual stabilizing phase!

"Why isn't it working, god damn it?!" Dr. Kyoki screams and starts to push the buttons even more furious. You cautiously walk over to Teruki, fleeing from Ritsu's gaze. "What is he trying to do?" You whisper. "Trying to avoid the explosion by stabilizing the pressure inside the energy storage... But I don't think it's working..." Teruki answers. "Then... Shouldn't we get out of here?" "It doesn't matter, the explosion will be that big that not less than Seasoning City will be destroyed."

"You there! The blonde one!" Teruki holds up his index finger towards himself. "Me?"

"Yes, you! Can you try to form a kind of shield around this? Then I'll have a little bit more time to stabilize it."

"I-I'll try my best." Teruki holds up his hands, a yellow light forming around his body and slowly wrapping the storage ball. "Like this?"

"Yes, this should be sufficient for a little bit."

Cracks form on the glass of the ball, you flinch because of the sound.

"W-What can I do?!" You shout. "I don't want to stand there and get myself and all the others blown away without doing anything!"

"You can't do anything, you're not an esper!", the doctor grumbles, "Call your loved ones and say good bye to them, pray to god or what you're believing in or something like this! You're useless right now!"
