Chapter 3: Concert Time

I collapse onto the front of the car. "My god! That concert was amazing!"
"Totally." I raise an eyebrow.
"Sorry did I miss something?" Connor looks over at me.
"No." I cross my arms over my chest.
"Con I hate one worded sentences."
"Sorry." I sigh and roll my eyes. I slide my hand through my hair and look to my left. I do a double take when I see Marcus. I instantly break into smile, Marcus was totally cute and was definitely one to romance girls instead of seducing them instantly. Marcus notices me and waves, I can tell I'm blushing. I wave back and he walks away from his friends and to me. Oh my god.
"Hey Naomi." I see Connor's head turn quickly.
"Hey Marcus."
"More like mucus." I glare at Connor.
"Connor enough." Marcus laughs awkwardly. I turn to him quickly. "I'm sorry Marcus. How about we talk somewhere else?"
"Fuck no!"
"Connor!" I grab Marcus' hand and pull him close, "I'll meet you by the entrance in a few minutes, promise." He smiles sweetly.
"Can't wait." I feel myself blushing again when he touches my chin and walks away. I turn back to Connor to be met with an angry look.
"Don't give me that look Connor! I really like Marcus."
"You don't even know him."
"I never got to! You always pull me away or scare him off. Well I'm stick of it. Wait up or don't, I don't care. But I'm going to go talk to Marcus."
"Nomi-"
"No Connor. I've gone so long without even speaking to him, I should at least get to decide for myself if I wanna be friends with him or not. I'll be back in 20 or 30 minutes. If you're here, great. If not, I'll find another way home." I turn away from Connor's sad gaze and walk to the entrance to see Marcus. I instantly break into a smile.
"Hi." He lifts his head and shoves his phone in his pocket.
"Hey."
"I'm sorry about Connor. He's just really over protective of me." Marcus shrugs.
"No worries. It probably doesn't help that he doesn't like me very much." I bite my lip.
"Yeah. Why is that?" Marcus shoves his hands in his pocket.
"It's a long story." I smile and lean against the wall.
"I'm all ears, I have half an hour to talk. Hopefully I'll have a ride home waiting for me."
"Well if Connor leaves I can always give you a ride." I smile again.
"That would be great." We spend a few seconds looking at each other and it's not awkward.
"Here." Marcus takes off his jacket and throws it over my shoulders. I'm instantly intoxicated with the smell of some men's cologne and the beach. He smells so good. "You looked a little cold." I grip the jacket tighter around me.
"Thank you. That's really sweet." Marcus shrugs.
"I'm not a totally bad guy. I have a romantic side." I smile and bite my lip nodding.
"So I've noticed." Again Marcus and I stare at each other for a few seconds when I finally feel I'm red like a tomato. I clear my throat and look at the ground. "So the story?" I look back up at Marcus to see he hasn't shifted his gaze.
"The story." I see Marcus' gaze drop to my lips and back up. "We were cool until he found out I had some type of feeling for you." He raises his eyebrow and crosses his arms over his chest. "Hm, guess it wasn't that long of a story." I laugh.
"Well, what do you mean by some type of feelings?" Marcus shrugs.
"I'm not afraid to admit I have a crush on you." I bite my lip and look at the ground. "That's actually a really sexy habit." I raise my eyebrow and he slides his finger over my bottom lip. I think I'm about to pass out.
"Connor calls it annoying when I bite my lip." Marcus shrugs again.
"Most guys find it sexy, that's probably why he doesn't like when you do it. He doesn't want you to get that type of attention." I roll my eyes.
"Yeah that sounds like Connor." I sigh and Marcus grabs my hand.
"I like that you have such a close relationship with him. It proves you don't need to rely on a guy. I like a girl who knows what she wants." I laugh and shake my head.
"Well in that case you might have the wrong girl. I don't know what I want." Marcus steps closer and I feel my heart beating faster.
"What you want in life can still be undecided, but it's a matter of what you want now. I've come to the conclusion in these few minutes that I want to be with you no matter the consequences or wrath of Connor. The question is do you?" I look up at Marcus' beautiful green eyes. I bite my lip and nod.
"Depends."
"On what?" I look down at our hands now intertwined.
"What are the benefits?" Marcus laughs and gains his composure.
"Well, day or night I'm at your service. I cook, I clean, I'm house broken." We both laugh and I can't help but think how great a relationship with him would be. "But if you want, I can wait and we can take it slow. I'm aware I kind of asked the question outta the blue. If you want we can go on test dates and see if you'd be interested."
Wow... If he's willing to take it slow then he's gotta really like me. I nod and Marcus kisses my cheek. "Naomi." Marcus and I turn to see Connor standing beside a pretty girl with blonde hair and blue bangs.
"Hey Con. Who's this?" The girl steps forward and holds out her hand.
"Hi I'm Zoey." I smile.
"I really like that name." I shake her hand. "It's nice to meet you."
"You too. Connor told me you were the main girl in his life and I felt it was necessary I meet you." I raise my eyebrows.
"Wow, well that's actually really... Wow." Zoey laughs and shrugs.
"Well, I didn't wanna just be walking around and having you wonder who I am. I wanted to give you a formal introduction."
"That's refreshing actually. Thank you." Connor steps forward.
"Zoey goes to the same school as us." I'm slightly taken back, I would have noticed someone as pretty as her at our tiny college.
"Yeah I transferred last week. I needed a change and I like small towns."
"Oh, well that explains a lot. Welcome and such." She laughs and looks over at Marcus.
"I'm sorry I was being rude. Is this your boyfriend?" Marcus steps forward holding out his hand. Zoey shakes it.
"Actually I just had the nerve to ask Naomi out on a date. This Friday at 8?" I smile and nod.
"That would be great." Zoey claps.
"Oh my gosh. What if we make it a double date?"
"Actually," Connor says finally stepping into the conversation, "I don't approve of-" Zoey grabs Connor's hand and Connor shuts up instantly.
"Connor, she deserves to go out on dates." She looks over at me, "and she seems fairly happy about it." I smile wide and nod.
"I am."
"Well I should get going." Marcus says kissing my hand. I feel butterflies in my stomach. "I'll text you Naomi."
"But I don't have your number."
"I have yours." I raise my eyebrow.
"How?"
"My friends are friends with your friends." I laugh and nod.
"Okay. I'll see you Friday." Marcus walks off after saying bye to Zoey and Connor.
"Actually I should be heading off too. I'll see you Tuesday Connor." Zoey kisses Connor's cheek and walks away.
"You're dating Zoey?" I ask with a smile.
"And your dating Marcus?" My smile automatically drops.
"Connor-"
"Just get in the car Naomi." I follow Connor to the car and hop into the passengers seat. "Why Marcus of all people?" I turn to him as I click my seatbelt.
"Because I really like him Con." Connor shakes his head and the rest of the drive home is quiet. A full 45 minutes of silence. Connor stops in front of my house. "You coming?"
"Actually I'm gonna be headed home." I feel my heart break. I nod.
"Okay. I'll see you tomorrow then." I'm about to step out when I stop and turn to Connor. "I love you Con." He nods and turns to look out the window. My heart completely shatters as I step out with a sigh. I close the car door and Connor peals out. I stand there watching his car go down the street for a few minutes then walk inside. My dad was already asleep on the couch. I cover him with a blanket and turn off the TV.
I walk up to my room and change into my pajamas after plugging my phone in to charge. I brush my teeth and take off my makeup and grab my favorite book. I get comfortable and open the book when my phone vibrates, I flip it over hoping it's Connor but instead it was Marcus. Getting his text made me happy but I would have been happier if it was Connor. Saying sorry, saying I love you... Saying anything. I sigh and set my book on the nightstand. I'm not in the mood to read anymore. I turn off my lamp and cuddle with the stuffed white tiger Connor got me when we went to the carnival. I close my eyes and slowly go to sleep.
