Chapter 12: Practice Date

I finish putting my hair into my half-up do, when my phone rings. I slide the screen and put it in speaker.

"Hello?"

'Hi!' I smile.

"Why are you calling me this late Layla?"

'I wanted to see if you wanted to sleep over tonight? I'm having a rough day.' I feel my heart break.

"Yeah. Yeah of course. I'll be over around 11, is that okay?"

'Thats fine. Normally you'd be on your way now when I tell you I'm having a bad day.' I sigh in self hatred.

"I know Layla, and I would right now if I wasn't going on a date with Connor."

'YOURE DATING CONNOR?!' I jump at the sudden change in volume.

"Tone it down Layla. It's a practice date. He wants to know how to be more romantic cause Zoe doesn't think he's committed enough."

'Are you gonna really date him?'

"Layla."

'Im serious.' I laugh and sigh exasperatedly.

"I'll tell you everything when I get to your place Layla."

'Fine. Don't leave out any details though! And if you kiss, you need to tell me who was better. Marcus or-'

"BYE!" I yell into the phone as I hang up. I shake my head when I see my dad standing by the door. "Hi daddy."

"So you and Connor?" I sigh and turn to him.

"You heard what I said daddy. It's a practice date for Connor's girlfriend."

"He wouldn't ask you if he didn't have feelings for you." I laugh.

"Or maybe cause he's comfortable asking me cause we've grown up together." My dad shrugs and I laugh as I walk up and kiss his cheek. "I'm gonna spend the night at Layla's house okay?"

"Alright. I have work tomorrow so be sure to bring your house key." I grab my keys off my desk and slip on my flats. I kiss my dad's cheek again and walk out of my house. I hop into my car and text Connor.

'On my way now. Ready for this? XP'

I start my car and as I drive down the road I see my phone light go on. I look at the message and laugh.

'Definitely not. :/'

Fifteen minutes later I pull up to Connor's house and see him waiting outside. I get out of my car and close the door.

"This is awkward." I laugh as I walk up to him.

"It's only awkward if you make it awkward Con. Lesson one: If a girl is driving herself, it's cute and kinda romantic if you run up and open the door for her."

"I thought you only did that if you're in the car with her." I do a face palm and sigh.

"We have a lot of work to do." I stand there and gesture to the door.

"What?" I laugh and shake my head.

"Jesus Connor. You open doors for girls it's chivalrous."

"But you always walk right in. Why should I-"

"Connor!" He raises his eyebrows. "Pretend I'm Zoe. Open the door for me. It's a practice date and it's to help you learn romance. I took time out of my day to help you but if you're not going to try, I wish you luck and I'll be on my way." Connor sighs.
