Chapter 22: Forgiveness
I sigh as I pull up to Marcus' house. Connor told me where he lived and I decided now was the best time to apologize. I bite my lip as I walk to the front door, I knock and hear yelling. A few moments later I see a sweaty Marcus answer the door.
"Naomi." He seems surprised. He steps out and closes the door behind him. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to apologize-" just then there was a slam and another shriek.
"You're forgiven, bye." He walks into the house and slams the door in my face. I exhale slowly and walk back to my car, that was some apology. I wonder what's going on. I turn to the passengers side door to grab my phone and text Connor and as I type I hear a loud knocking at my window. I jump and roll down my window.
"Hi."
"Hey. You Naomi?" I swallow hard.
"Yeah."
"Come with me." I stay seated in my car while he walks up to the front door. He turns back to me and gestures for me to follow him. I sigh and get out of my car. When I reach him he brings his finger to his lips telling me to be quiet. I nod and we walk into his house.
"Logan! Ass! Here! Now!" I'm slightly scared when I realize it's Marcus' voice.
"Coming! Chill out!" He pulls me by the arm upstairs quickly. The next thing I know I'm being thrown into a pink room. "Stay here. Lyla keep her company." The door closes and I turn around to see a little girl no more than 10.
"Hi." I say kneeling down. She smiles and kneels in front of me.
"I'm Lyla." I laugh lightly at her tiny voice.
"I'm Naomi. How old are you?"
"Six." She has a slight lisp and it makes her even cuter. "Wanna play a game?" I smiles wide and nod.
"Sure. What do you have?" She walks over to her closet and pulls out 'Chutes and Ladders', seeing the game brought back memories of Connor and I arguing over who won and what wasn't fair. "Awesome. Let's play." She smiles wide and hops beside me. I sit down and start setting up the board.
"How old are you?" She is so adorable!
"I'm 21."
"Like daddy!" My smile fades.
"L-like daddy?" She nods with a smile and rolls the dice. Is Marcus her dad? He got someone pregnant at 16? "Your turn." I laugh awkwardly and roll the dice.
"Who is your daddy Lyla?"
"Mark." Mark. Is that Marcus?"
"Marcus?" She nods and rolls the dice. What the hell is going on?
"Hey." I turn quickly to see the Logan guy walking in breathing heavily. "Sorry Lyla, I gotta take her away for now."
"Why!"
"Lyla please." He gives a pleading look. "Not right now. I'm so sorry but I really, really need to talk to her." She crosses her arms over her chest.
"Fine." I set the dice down and smile at her.
"We can play another time okay?" Her face grows hopeful.
"Promise?" I can't help but smile.
"Promise." I stand up and follow Logan to a dark room. Now I'm a little scared. He closes the door and turns the light on, the interior is sleek and neutral colors, the walks navy blue and filled with white colored quotes written all around the room. "Whoa." He laughs and pulls me to a lounge chair in the corner.
