Together, we march to the White House, passing those door scanners Mason mentioned when we left for D.C. Once inside, the cabinet members freeze in place when they spot us.
"What are you all doing here?!" one of them yells.
"My name is Jojo Pullman. I want to tell you something." I announce.
"About what?"
"My goal: to restore American society to its former glory. It's gone to shit. Can't you see?"
"Silence! You don't get to speak after you've killed Bradley, a member of Team Ater!" the cabinet member rushes to punch me, but I dodge. "I couldn't care less about your intentions. I'll never agree to your vision of a perfect society,"
God, seems like everybody in the White House thinks and acts like President Wills. This is no good, especially for American society. No wonder it's gone to shit.
"So this is how the cabinet members are? They're basically clones of President Wills," Christian whispers in my ear. Boom, one person who agrees with me.
"This is no good for American society," Nicole shakes her head. Boom, another person who agrees with me.
"I went to talk to President Wills, hoping he'd change. I should've known that was a bad idea. I guess my 'vision' of a perfect society won't be happening anytime soon," I put my hands on my hips. Seriously, though. That guy is stubborn as hell.
"Talk to President Wills?!" the cabinet member roars with laughter. "Don't you realize how stupid you are? President Wills knows exactly what's going on and what he's doing,"
"I was hoping to change things without violence, but since he wasn't willing to cooperate, we've no other choice. Yes, I may still be a teenager, but I believe I can change things. Gandhi once said, 'Be the change you wish to see in the world.'"
"Jojo cannot do this alone. That's why we're all with her. We share a common goal and that's what will keep us together," Joseph interjects.
"Joseph's right. Together we stand, divided we fall. If we stick together, we can overthrow this government of superficiality and discrimination and create an America where everybody can live as they please without worrying about what others think of them." I follow up. The cabinet members chuckle amongst themselves. Suddenly, the rest of Team Ruber shows up from behind.
"We've captured the rest of the Team Ater members. Had to get them out of the way before we---," Mason announces, but Alessandra puts a finger on his lips. "Oh, right."
"Good to hear, Mason. Now we just need to complete the plan," I whisper in his ear.
"Now we just need to get to President Wills. He's hard to take down," Alessandra says as she and the rest of Team Ruber joins us.
"He's hard to get to, period. Taking him down requires unity and a lot of grit," Nicole interjects. Like I said, united we stand, divided we fall.
"As long as we are united, we will not stop until President Wills is defeated. Hit us, punish us, kill us---do whatever you want, but that won't discourage us from fulfilling our goal," I announce. "Besides, we've even got allies that aren't in the nation's capital."
Trevan did tell me about the multiple teams, like Team Ruber and Team Flavus. Remember when Joseph put on the green headband? You know, the one with the 'V' on it? That means he must be on a team of some sort, but what exactly? Besides, is this new team even situated in the nation's capital? I doubt.
I remember seeing people walking out with red, yellow, black, and blue headbands, along with other colors. I never saw anybody wear a green headband until today. I never thought I would join one of those teams, to be honest.
"Where? Are they dead?" the cabinet member roars with laughter.
"Joseph is wearing a green headband. I've never seen anybody wear that around here, so his team must not be from around here,"
"Team Viridis is what he's a part of. They're an organization that preaches peace. They're situated in the South," Mason explains. The cabinet members cower back.
"That's right, you cowards. You can't stop us from achieving our goal," Anthony taunts.
"The one you should be afraid of is Trevan. He killed one of the presidents of the USA, no?" Alessandra put her hands on her hips.
"We may be part of different teams, but a common goal unites us," Mason states. "The goal to restore American society to its former glory,"
"What have you guys done ever since President Wills became president? Made society as superficial and shitty as it could get. No wonder life is fucked up," I shake my head. The cabinet members gasp.
"If you try to change things, there will be war! Do you not understand this, Jojo?" the cabinet member smirks.
"War, you say?" Anthony's mouth opens wide.
"Do you not understand this? There are people in the country that support President Wills and all he does. Of course there will be war between you turds and us,"
"The country is divided! I understand that war may result from this but I believe we can make a change," I cry. I remember learning in History class that the country was divided over the assassination of President Daniel Evans.
"Me too," Anthony nods in my direction.
"Count me in," Mason tightens his headband. Joseph, Paul, and Nicole follow suit.
"So be it," the cabinet member shouts. Suddenly, everybody in the crowd charges and tackles the cabinet members like the way football players tackle each other. Guards arrive on the scene.
"No! No! You get away from them!" one of them pries someone off of the cabinet that did all the talking. Suddenly, I get knocked to the floor. I fall face first and my glasses fall off. My vision becomes blurred as I struggle to find my glasses. It isn't long at all until I put my glasses back on and everything becomes clearer. Then, chaos.
Suddenly, I remember what Shanelle said in the hospital. She told me to meet her on top of the White House. Apparently, she wants me to go down like a total punk in front of everybody. Somebody screams behind me, causing me to gasp and get distracted for a moment. Where was I? Oh, right. Shanelle. She made me promise to meet her on top of the White House.
I make my way through the chaotic scene, evading papers and punches flying my way. All of a sudden, a guy pins me to the ground and repeatedly punches me. Luckily, I'm able to kick the guy in the crotch. As he winces in pain, I see my chance and slip away.
The scene is pure madness that is here to stay. Maybe engaging the cabinet members isn't such a great idea. Sure, there was the LGBT community rioting in front of the White House, but which is worse?
I push and shove my way through the crowd yet again. How does one navigate the White House? I really have no idea.
"Get offa me!" I shout as some guy puts his crotch on my face by accident. Jeez, what the hell was that?! The last thing I wanna be doing right now is staring at someone's crotch. All of a sudden, somebody kicks me in the face, causing me to slam against the wall. Seeing my chance, I get inside the nearest elevator and press the top button. Finally, some peace and quiet.
"Where you headed?" Joseph queries. My eyes widen. When did he get here?
"To the top of the White House, remember? Shanelle challenged me to a duel. What are YOU doing here?"
"I want payback," he announces. Joseph, wanting payback? Isn't that a little...out of character?
"For what? Look, I know you're upset about Grey, but revenge won't do any good,"
"Look, Jojo. I've always been the quiet type. Witnessing Grey's death made me realize that I can't sit around and do nothing. That's what I did when he died. I have to take a stand for the LGBT community. They respect Grey and me for our work. I have to return the favor,"
"While we're on the topic...what top secret info were you able to gather?"
"I'll let you know when we get there,"
