||Arranged Wedding?||
----×----
“You really think this is going to work?” a girl of mid twenties questions the guy she's standing with on a balcony of an apartment in New York City at the eleventh floor. One would say that she's dressed at her best, by just a glance but the people closer to her would know that today she had barely cared to dress up. She wasn't that a tall figure or something rather she was just 5'4 and too short for the personality she had built up. She was a beautiful girl with her locks reaching her waist but right now her hairs were loosely pinned up into a bun. She looked way too irritated as she spoke to the guy.
“Yeah. Come on, Nandini. It's been two years our parents are nagging us to get married. I couldn't come up with anything this time to dodge it considering my dad's health. If you think this is not good then the final call is yours.” the tall guy informed Nandini Murthy their fate. She was in shock, clearly. She gaped at him with widened eyes.
“Avi, think about what you're saying! You're asking me to get married to you.” she was literally yelling and that made him shut her mouth.
“Don't shout, idiot. Our family is right outside in the living area.” he muttered pulling away as she hit him on his palm.
“Fine. Avi, listen. We don't have to make this decision under some pressure. This isn't India. Arranged marriage is going to kill me, yaa. We aren't in love and plus the fact that this is going to ruin our eight-year-old friendship.” she tried to reason with her argument.
“I'm not making this decision under any sort of pressure. We aren't in love right now and also we haven't looked at each other in that manner ever. The point is valid. Look at us. You haven't hooked up with anyone in these eight years and none of my relationships have lasted longer than six months. All that I'm saying is let's give us a try and trust me if we don't work out together, we'll have our ways out.” Avidaan said.
“You aren't getting it. I cannot even imagine having sex with you. Love and marriage in going to be a far fetched dream for us, Avi.” she said that in a defeated tone, quite unlike her character, and then slouched on the chair beside holding her head with both hands.
“Agreed. We've been through so much together. Let's try this once for the sake of our families.” he explained it to her.
“Are you crazy? Marriage cannot be a try and is much different than every other thing that we have been through. Nothing will ever be same then, Avi. Our friendship is going to dissolve away amidst the commitments and responsibilities and I clearly don't want to loose you.” Nandini put forth her worry while Avidaan sighs.
He moved ahead and sat beside her pulling her into a side hug. She placed her head on his shoulder, shutting her eyes.
“Trust me this time. We'll ask for three months before the wedding. Let's go to India for the preparations and be away from this place. Let's try looking at each other in a different manner and try to behave like the usual cheesy couples. Given the fact that we're best friends for eight years this is going to be much easier for us. Let's get married for our families and then take our own time to fall in love.” Avidaan softly muttered to her knowing that she being all ears to him.
“What if we don't work out? I'll loose you forever!” she had partially agreed and that made him smile fondly at her.
“I'll try my best to not let us fall apart and even then if we don't work out, we'll friend-zone each other forever. We've been friends for ages, let's try out being husband and wife and if it turns out bad then we'll relocate ourselves to being friends again and that's a promise.” She chuckled at the friend-zone-forever part along with him. whenever it came to convince Nandini, Avidaan was the best at it.
“Okay. Let's tell them that we're ready to get married.” she told turning to him and he couldn't help but grin. She loved that smile on him the best and as a result a smile creeped up her face automatically. She could do anything to keep up that smile on his face despite the fact that he looked the most stupid with that look on his face. She hugged him properly and he responded almost immediately.
Avidaan Malhotra and Nandini Murthy had been friends for the eight years since the time they had bumped into each other at the medical school of the city and then ended up working together at his father's chain of hospitals. Avidaan and Nandini were classmates for the five years and then worked at the same place at different sections. Nandini was a gynaecologist while Avidaan was a neurosurgeon. They've been such close friends that even they were close to the other's family.
Avidaan would be the guy who hooked up with girls randomly but he wouldn't be with the girl for longer than six months. His long-term relationship until now was the one which lasted for six months and five days. Nandini had been in just one relationship in her entire time until now and that ended as she got away from the high school along with the country- India. From that day till today she did not even care to hook-up. It wasn't like she was stuck to the boyfriend she broke up with when she was seventeen but then these stuff never managed to interest her.
Nandini loved her profession more than anything and that kept her caught up. Her colleagues would throw themselves at her at the beginning but then as they noticed her turning everyone down and spending all her time with Avidaan the most, extended to a really small circle of friends, everyone backed out.
As a witness of their friendship over years their families drew out a conclusion that these two couldn't be with anyone else so should end up together. And since the last two years they have been trying to convince the two to get married and looks like....
The day has finally come.----×----
