||Silence before the storm?||
----×----
In a penthouse apartment in Mumbai at the nineteenth floor of a twenty five storey tower by the coast of the Arabian sea.....
“He broke up again?” a guy in mid twenties asked the other guy who sat with him on the couch of the living area looking at the other guy who was sitting at the lounge stool gulping drinks one after the other, all neat.
“Looks like it, Dhruv.” Cabir Dhawan replies. He sounded pissed and more of concerned.
“Is he ever going to settle down?” Dhruv said and that was a sheer exclamation. He was well aware about his friend whom with he was acquainted for over twenty years.
“He isn't even affected by the break-up. Look at him enjoying his drinks.” one of the two girls said who walked in with trays of food and soft drinks towards the couch where Cabir and Dhruv were seated. One of them was tall and skinny dressed up in casuals while the other girl was chubby and looked fairer due to the four-month-long pregnancy and the little bump showing off. Dhruv helped the pregnant girl put the tray down and then ensured that she was settled on the couch comfortably. Cabir and the other girl smiled at the husband and wife duo.
“Why would he be anyway? He wasn't involved with her at all. In fact he hasn't been involved with anyone after his high school affair.” a very much pregnant Alya remarked to which Mukti nodded in agreement.
“We shouldn't be fussing over his break-up, it's all like a routine. He'll meet a girl, get attracted and before anything gets serious on either of their part he looses his interest and then it's a break-up, all over again. I've lost count of how many of such flings he had in the last seven to eight years.” Mukti said shrugging off and also indicating that they should drop the topic. The rest knew that it's the best to drop this topic and they decided to do it as well.
“Manik, come on in, here. Let's have food.” Alya called out to Manik who sat facing his back to his bestfriends, concentrating on his drinks. As he heard he turned to flaunt his hungover look to them. He indeed was the best among the men and when drunk he looked all the way more attractive, laying down the reason for a lot of hook-ups at the bars and clubs around. At that very moment any girl could go gaga over him for the perfect attire, the little two-day-old stubble, perfect jawline, and mostly the charming gleam in his eyes.
He stood up, pushing the glass on the table ahead and then headed towards the only people he cared for the most after his family. He slouched on one of the bean bags which were the most favourite part of the furniture at his huge penthouse apartment that he shared with his cousin cum bestfriend- Cabir Dhawan. Cabir was Manik's paternal aunt's son and since his parents passed away in an accident six years ago they have been living together.
“Dad called this morning.” Manik declared to them as they began to eat. Manik's dad Aarav Malhotra lived in New York City along with his elder brother Vikram Malhotra taking care of their family business away from him. Elder Malhotra along with his wife, Nyonica Malhotra would spend a full lot of three months with Manik every end of the year and the rest of the time at the regular work place. The setting was perfect and all of them liked it the same way.
“Is he coming or was the call for something else?” Cabir asked him.
“He isn't coming now. He called to inform that our cousin has finally agreed to get married.” Manik informed Cabir. These two weren't that close to the cousin Manik was talking about but they were family after all. When all of them were kids they would pay frequent visits to Punjab-their native, only till their grandparents were there to hold onto the whole clan but as they were gone none of the cousins had met other than for the launch of their family business eleven years back.
