"Mom you gotta let me back home," I plead into Alyssa's phone, crying. I was still standing in the middle of this field, standing next to Alyssa. I look back. The guys were talking in the distance.
"Your father-"
"I'M YOUR DAUGHTER!" I scream at the top of my lungs. "I ALMOST JUST GOT SHOT BECAUSE ONE OF THE GUYS DECIDED TO DITCH ME SOMEWHERE!"
"Well you can't just run off with strangers," she tells me. I just stop talking. This was getting ridiculous. She was my mother, and she's trying to tell me that I should've learned a lesson. Okay, I did, but at the same time, I have nowhere to go.
"I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!" I scream.
My Mom sighs. "Where?"
"IOWA! I'M IN FREAKING IOWA WHERE THANK GOODNESS MY 'EX-BOYFRIEND?' FOUND ME JUST IN TIME BEFORE A GUY PRACTICALLY BLEW ME UP!" I scream, crying. "LESSON LEARNED MOM BUT YOU NEED TO REALIZE THAT I COULD'VE DIED FIVE MINUTES AGO!"
My Mom stays silent as I continue to cry. "Have your ex-boyfriend take you home."
"MOM!" I scream, crying. "THERE'S AN 'EX' IN FRONT OF HIS TITLE FOR A REASON! DO YOU EVEN CARE ANYMORE?!"
"If you wanted to go out with these guys and travel across the world, they can get you back home."
I couldn't believe this. What kind of mother stops caring like that? Especially after her daughter just got shot? I hang up the phone and look at Alyssa. "I can't get back home. I have nowhere to go."
She just looks at me, sympathetically. "What?"
"My parents literally do not care anymore. Literally. Shocking, I know," I say, giving her phone back to her. I wipe the tears from my eyes with my sleeve.
Wait. I knew who to call.
Jake. The guy who I went to college with. Remember when I told you that I considered us more than friends? I mean, we didn't have labels, so I wasn't cheating...we knew we liked each other a lot though. Oh boy.
I take Alyssa's phone right back out of her hands and call Jake. He didn't know about any of this, so maybe, just maybe he could help me get back home. I just hoped he would answer the phone.
"Hello?"
"JAKE!" I exclaim, excited that he answers. "JAKE OH MY GOD I NEED YOUR HELP!"
"What's going on?!" he exclaims, worriedly.
"I'm stranded in the middle of nowhere. Story can come later, but I need you to help get me home."
"Of course, stranger," he jokes. I laugh a little but I hope he was being serious. "Where?"
"...Iowa."
"IOWA?! How the hell did you-"
"Jake please!"
"How am I supposed to fly you back home?"
"SOMEHOW I DON'T KNOW JAKE! JAKE I ALMOST GOT SHOT AND I'M STILL STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE JUST PLEASE FIGURE OUT SOMETHING! DON'T EVEN BOTHER CALLING MY PARENTS BECAUSE THEY DON'T GIVE TWO SHITS AND PROBABLY DON'T WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!" I exclaim. I really just said that because I knew my parents would tell him.
"ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT!" he screams, trying to calm me down. "I will get you back home. I promise." I smile, taking a sigh of relief.
"Who should I call? It might be a few hours."
I sigh. Great. I'd have to sit here for hours with these guys. "Alyssa's cell phone."
"Got it. I've already started looking up ways to get you back home. You'll get back home. Wait...Alyssa? How is she with you? Who are you even with?" I look behind me at everyone.
"Friends," I tell him.
"How'd you get there?" I look back at Pete. You know what, I didn't care if Jake knew. Hopefully he'd still have the heart to try and save me. I hand the phone to Pete.
"You tell my friend how I got here. Now."
"And your friend is?"
"PETE!" I scream. He nods his head, finally accepting my request, and putting up the phone to his hear. "Hello?"
I watch him as he talks to Jake.
"She just..." Pete looks up at me. I nod my head, waiting for him to tell him.
"Okay, look. I dropped her off in the middle of nowhere. Dude, look, I met her at a concert but we're not in a relationship. A few of my other friends just wanted to chill, and then she wasn't being nice to one of my friends, so therefore I just stranded her." Pete puts the phone on speaker.
"DUDE! 'Not nice'? What are we, five?! She almost got killed! Why would you do that?! And why would April hang out with STRANGERS?!" Jake exclaims, through the phone. I look at Pete, nodding my head, agreeing with Jake. Pete sighs.
"GET HER BACK HOME!" he screams.
"Dude, okay, I will!" Pete exclaims. He hangs up the phone and takes out his wallet. He hands me five one hundred dollar bills. I just look at him, shocked.
"I have this on me because I planned on getting you home. You never gave me a chance."
I just roll my eyes and take the money to get back home. "I never gave you a chance, what bullshit. Alyssa, I'll see you when you come around again." I start walking towards the direction of the airport.
"PETE, YOU'RE JUST GONNA LET HER GO LIKE THAT?!" I hear Patrick yell.
"PATRICK, SHE ISN'T IN LOVE WITH YOU ANYMORE!"
"BECAUSE OF YOU!" I hear Patrick scream. I shake my head, wishing that they weren't fighting because of me. I really needed to go back home now.
