"Do you like Ashton?" He blurted quickly.

I stopped in my tracks turning slowly back to find his blue eyes serious.

"What?"

"Do you like Ashton?" He stepped closer to me. I laughed. He can't be serious.

"You're serious?" I asked. He shook his head.

"Of course I like Ashton! I love him! In case you didn't notice we're very close." I said knowing that's not what he meant.

"You know what I mean" He said stepping yet another step closer to me.

"No Ashton and I are just- wait why does it matter?" I crossed my arms over my chest raising both eyesbrows.

"It doesn't, I was just- it looked like- Well I didn't know if you two were like friends or more?" He stuttered looking down.

This time I took a step closer. Our chests were almost touching.

"What? Jealous?" I questioned smirking. His head shot up. I didn't realize he was that tall. Since we were so close I had to look up at him.

He laughed bitterly

"Why would I be jealous?" He asked shaking his head. I took a step back a little hurt but hid it very well.

"Why would you ask that question then?" I smirked. He looked like he was at a loss for words.

"Bye Luke" I turned around. I had the upper hand and I liked it like that.

When I walked inside I noticed the smell of biscuits and gravy my favorite!

"Dad" I called walking into the kitchen. To my disappointment it was Kate standing in front of the stove with her pregnant belly popping out of her shirt.

"Hey sweetie" She smiled turning her attention to me.

"This smells so good!" I complimented.

"Thanks. Your dad said you love this so I decided to make it."

"When's it gona be ready?"

"It's actually done"

I grabbed a plate and started piling on. Yay! This is the sausage gravy. My mouth started to water.

I started walking up the stairs when Kate called me.

"Yeah?" I turned around with my food in my hands.

"Well your father isn't going to be home till late tonight and I was wondering if, maybe you wanted to join me for dinner?" She said uncomfortably.

"Um sure" I said walking back down the stairs towards her.

We sat down at the table in silence.

Well this is awkward.

"So how's school going?" She broke the silence.

"Good. Actually hard. Did dad tell you I'm having a friend tutor me?" He's not really a friend but all well.

"Yeah. He said he's a boy?" She smiled.

I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah he's a jerk though. He's in Ash's band." I said.

"Is he cute?" She questioned.

"No!" I said quickly.

"Okay maybe a little." I laughed. She did too.

The rest of dinner we talked mostly about Luke. She thinks he has a thing for me because he asked that question earlier. But I disagree. There's no way.
