Is Kate okay? Is the baby okay? These were the only two things that occupied my thoughts as we drove to the hospital. It's too soon for her to be in labor, she still has another month. I couldn't stop thinking of the worst as we got closer to the hospital.
"Baby, I'm sure everything's okay." Luke said rubbing soothing circles into my thigh with his hand, the other on the steering wheel.
Even in my distressed state the use of the word "baby" still managed to make my heart flutter.
"She's not supposed to have the baby for another month."
I couldn't stop thinking that something terrible had happened. Everything with the pregnancy was going fine from what I'd seen. I even went to a few ultra sounds with her and everything seemed perfect.
"People have babies early all the time" He tried to reason with me gently squeezing my thigh with his hand glancing at me for only a second.
I sighed looking out the window as we drove through the streets of Sydney. Everything seemed to be moving ever so slow as we drove and my heart started to pick up as we neared the hospital.
I swung my door open as soon as the car stopped running to the entrance of the hospital. My feet stopped suddenly as I stood directly in front of it. I didn't know how bad things would be and I was terrified to find out.
A hand laced through my own as a body stood next to me. I looked down at the intertwined fingers than up at Luke.
"Ready?" He asked looking down at me. Somehow his blue eyes always seemed to sparkle in the light illuminating them. I found comfort in the way he looked at me sighing slightly. I nodded my head as we walked through the revolving doors. Luke's hand still intertwined with mine as we walked to the front desk.
"Kate Sheema's room please" I spoke quietly biting my lip nervously. The lady behind the desk looked at the computer in front of her looking for the name. She had light brown hair that stopped at her shoulders, her eyes a pale blue. She looked tired, slight bags forming under her eyes.
"Room 234" Her voice was soft and inviting.
"She's actually in surgery at the moment, but a few family members are in the waiting room down the hall from her" I looked up at Luke concern evident in both of our expressions. He gave my hand a squeeze slightly pulling me towards the elevator doors.
More thoughts started to cloud my head on the way up as I was completely confused with what was going on. As soon as we got to the waiting room my eyes landed on my dad. He looked broken. His head held in his hands as his body ranked up and down.
"Dad?" I called quietly. My heart broke at the sight in front of me. My fathers eyes red and puffy. I had never seen him cry in my entire life and watching him now I'm glad I hadn't before. He jumped up from his seat causing me to drop Luke's hand as he engulfed me in a tight hug causing tears to slip from my eyes.
"What's going on, what happened?"
"Kate was in a car accident" my dad managed to chock out through sobs causing myself to do the same.
"Is she okay? Is the baby okay?"
"We don't know yet" Kate's sister walked up to me taking me from my dad hugging me tightly. Soon her parents following her actions.
"So what? You don't know anything? If she's okay if the baby's okay?" I couldn't help the anger bobbling inside me at the fact that no one would even tell my father if his own wife or child was okay.
I ran my fingers through my hair as I turned quickly on my heels quickly walking to the desk that occupied a nurse.
"What's going on with Kate Sheema?" I asked the lady as soon as I stood in front of her.
