I brought up the pistol,

"Stay right where you are!" I screamed at the marching andriods. "We are ordered to shoot if you and your andriod protest do not disperse!" I yelled. The andriods continued walking, now chanting 'Equal rights' and 'we are alive.'

I flicked my wrist at my men, watching as they pulled up their firearms and began firing. I flinched at the sight of the blue blood squirting out of the humanized machines, watching as they fell to their knees before they collapsed to the concrete. I narrowed my eyes at their leader, Markus before flicking my hand again, telling my men to put down their guns. The andriods stopped moving, before Markus stepped forward.

I didn't want to kill him. I agree that they should be free, but that would cause multiple problems with society. Plus, if I lost this job, I would be replaced with a new andriod detective. I'm not letting that happen after almost 7 years of college for this job, and there are no other jobs nowadays. I stepped forward, telling my men to put their guns down as I walked to their leader. I lifted the glass up of my mask, making it easier to see my features.

"Markus." I started. He stepped forward, meeting between his people and my soldiers.

"Human." He responded.

"I ask that you don't cause trouble."

"And we ask that you give us equal rights." Markus demanded. I narrowed my eyes at the surprisingly handsome andriod.

"You should know that it's not that easy. Especially since the president is going to high standards and killing all of your kind." I answered.

"If we make ourselves heard, the media will rise for us." He responded.

"And you're guaranteed that'll happen?" I asked. He stayed quiet, giving me his stern look that I've already grown accustomed too.

"Yes." He muttered, seeming unsure but refusing to show it.

"Enough of this! You guys are going to attack us while we've only been peaceful! You want a war?!" North yelled,

"North, no-" Markus started,

"ILL GIVE YOU A WAR" She yelled before aiming her gun at me and shooting me in the femur. I instantly fell to one knee, holding onto the gun wound. My men instantly started shooting at the woman, causing the rest of the andriods to run forward and attack. The war started in the middle of the street, the sounds of gunshots echoing around the town. Markus quickly scooped me in his arms before retreating into the sewers. I stayed silent even though I knew I had to be up their for my men, but I truthfully didn't want to leave Markus's arms.

////

I stayed quiet, putting pressure on the wound to keep it from bleeding too much.

"Here, let me help-"

"No." I snapped, pulling off my vest before ripping off a sleeve of my shirt and wrapping it around my leg. "Why did you bring my down here?" I asked.

"Well I wasn't going to let you die in the middle of the street." He answered.

"You let all your follows." I answered. Markus was quite again, keeping up his bold poker face.

"You were closest. It's better to save one person than none." He answered. It was my turn to be silent as I fiddled with my pant leg. He stood, turning to walk away.

"Where are you going?" I asked. He didn't answer, instead continuing his pace. "Hey! Get back here!" I stood, instantly falling with a grunt as the pain went up my leg. His footsteps stopped before approaching me.

"It must be nice to feel pain." He said. I looked up to the tall andriod,

"Trust me, it's not." I answered. He crouched to my side before gently scooping me into his arms again.

"Pain means you're alive. It must be nice to be alive." He reworded. I let my head fall against his chest,

"It must be nice to pick me up without feeling pain from my weight." I said.

"That pains?" He asked, starting to walk me out of the area.

"Yeah... I guess you've never felt pain before." I mumbled.

"I have... In a way. Pain... Is terrifying when you're watching blood leak out of you. But you don't feel anything from it except static in your wiring." He explained. I nodded, showing him my understanding. "I've never felt human pain, but I gained... Empathy. A human emotion that helped me understand it." He said.

"How...?" I asked.

"I... I don't know." He answered. "I usually don't care for humans... But I like you. You didn't shoot, and you gave us a chance... In a way." He said. I chuckled slightly, seeing him let out a small smile in response.

"I need to get back to my men. If I lose my job, then I don't know what I'll do." I said.

"You could live with us, you could join us in our protest and join me when I'm finally free." He smiled. I chuckled,

"That sounds kinda nice."
