Cafe Date

I wake up at the sound of my alarm. Turning over, I shut it off and rub my eyes. It's too early for this shit. I sit up and rub my face with my hands. I don't seem to ache too much today. I get out of bed and find a shirt out my draws, putting it on I notice what it doesn't fully cover the bruises on my neck. It will have to do, I'll just have to keep my jacket on.

'Hey Matti do you want me to meet you at yours so we can walk in together ? xxx' I smile at the text from Charlie.

'Hey meet me at the top of my road, save you coming out your way, say meet about 8:15? xxxx' It made sense to keep him away from my house, at least for now, but I wasn't going to turn down speeding time with him.

'Sounds good to me, I'll see you there xxx' 

Once I've gotten ready I take my dinner bits from last night down and wash them up. I decide I'd rather be early at the top of the road than risk bumping into my father, so I leave at about 8. 

To my surprise Charlie is stood there waiting for me with 2 cups of coffee and a paper bag.

"Morning Charlie." I call as I cross over the road. I'm greeted by a huge smile on his face that I must be matching.

"Morning Matti, I thought you might like a coffee and I picked up some muffins whilst I was I the coffee shop, if you'd like one."

"I'd love one, you know me so well." He hands me the coffee and we start walking towards Cole Hill. 

"Are you feeling better now or you still not grate?" 

"I think I'm over the worst of it, I do think we should stay away from that chippy." 

"I think you right, but I told you that before, you just had to get a kebab didn't you." He jokes and nudges me. I know this is meant to be a friendly gesture but he just pushes on one of the bruises on my side.

"Arh" I look over a Charlie and and see his smile morph into a frown. I never want to see his face like that.

"Matteusz, I'm sorry. I...I didn't mean to hurt you." I hold my side for a minute.

"Charlie, It wasn't anything you did, do not worry. I slipped on the stairs this morning, I guess I'm a little sore from it." I lower my head in embarrassment. I'm so ashamed I have to lie to him, but how to tell him. 

Charlie comes by my side and lifts my head up. "Are you sure you're ok?" Charlie wipes a tear of my check I hadn't realised had fallen.

"I fine really... We need to get going before we're late in, I've missed enough as it is." I go to pull away from him but he holds me close for a second. I felt so safe in his strong arms. He released his grip on me and intertwines his fingers with mine.   

Once we get into school we opened the bag with the muffins in. Charlie opens the bag and takes out to blueberry muffins. "Here." He said handing me the muffin.

"Thank you" I say taking the muffin and unwrapping it. "So do you have a lesson first thing?"

"Yeah, I've got English with April, Why are you on a free?" 

"Yeah, I'm free all morning,"

"My only frees just before lunch." 

"Would you maybe like to go and get some lunch together, I know a nice cafe nearby." I fiddle with my hands nervously and don't look up.

"Matteusz, I'd love to, It will be nice for it to just be to two of us." Charlie lifts my chin up and looks at me with a smile on his face. 

The bell goes signifying the start of the day. As we get up, I lean into Charlie and kiss him passionately again. I've wanted to do that since the first time I had. "I'll see you later then?" I ask. He looks very flushed but smiles at me and nods.

I'd Spent most of the morning in the library, trying to redo the course work that was on my laptop, so by the time lunch 4th Period came around I was more than ready for a break. 'Hey, where are we meeting? xxx' I read charlies message.

'I'm just packing my stuff up, Meet me out front, I'll be there in 5 xxxx'

"Hey Charlie, how was your morning?" I said walking up and taking his hand in mine. He leans in and gives me a quick kiss before we start walking.

"Yeah it was good, how was yours, did you get anything done?"

"Yeah I'm about halfway through my astro coursework now, so not bad for a morning."

"Matteusz, I thought you started that a while back?" Crap what can I say to him.

"I did but you know, the laptop thing... so." I look down at the pavement as we carry on down the street.

"You mean, you can't even ask your father to get your work off of it, that outrageous."

"Charlie, please." I look him in the eye and he lowers his voice.

"I just don't understand, why you can get it off the laptop, or he couldn't."

"I just think it's easier to redo it, you know, my fathers still no in a very good mood with me, you know, after the argument." He frowned at me for a moment but didn't say anything more. In fact neither of us spoke until we got to the cafe.

We find a table in the corner of the cafe and sit down. "What do you fancy?" I ask Charlie as he looks down the menu.

"I'm not sure, what are you having?" He looks up from his menu and watches me.

"I'm going to get a bacon, egg and hash brown batch I think."

"I might try that, it sound nice."

"OK, do you want a drink or anything?"

"Just get me what you get, how much do I owe you?"

"Not a penny, just smile for me." He smiles at me and I match it. I give him a quick kiss before heading to the counter to order. There's a few people before me in the que so I get my phone out to check facebook. 

"Matteusz." I turn around on hearing my name to find me Uncle Jakub standing behind he. He was my father brother and had many of the same values. Just my luck for him to be here the day I bring Charlie.

"Hi Uncle Jakub, What are you doing here? "I'm on my lunch break, Are you not meant to be in school?" I glance over at Charlie but he's not the wiser to what's going on. If Uncle Jakub knows I'm here with Charlie, he's going to tell my father. I reiliese I've glance away to long and my uncle has followed where my eye are.

"I had a free before lunch, so I decide I'd come here." He strighens him up so he looks taller.

"With him?" My Uncle cocks his head in the direction of Charlie. He already knows, and perside why should I hide Charlie from everyone.

"Yes with him." I say turning around and walking to the counter.  "Hi, can I get two Bacon, egg and hashbrown batches and two cans of fanta please?" The women behind the counter smiles at me.

"That's £6.75 please love."  I hand her the money and take two cans of fanta out of the fridge. "I'll bring it over darling."

As I walk past my uncle to get back to our table. "Pedzio!" Is hissed in my ear. I stare at him for a moment then walk back to mine and Charlies table. 

"Who was that man?" Charlie asks as he opens his can.

"Believe it or not my uncle."

"He has been staring at us since you sat down, what up with him?"

"I guess my fathers been telling him what happen but ,of course, only his side of the story."

"Well it looks like he's not staying anyway." 

My uncle walks over to our table and whispers in my ear "I think your father should hear about this, don't you?" With that he walks out of a cafe and gets in his car. 

"What was that about?" Charlie asks concerned. I felt sick, I knew I must look like I'd seen a ghost. I knew he'd tell my father and I knew how my father would react. 

"Oh it was nothing, don't worry about it." Just after that our food arrived and we began to eat.
