Clarke shifted on her top bunk as she scribbled out notes and drawings on the map given to all of us in our packets. Her pen swiftly slid across the paper with deep concentration. I gently nudged Miller in his side next to me on his bottom bunk, nodding my head at Clarke. The two of us laid side by side on the small twin mattress, somehow able to comfortably lay on it without either of us falling off.
"She's not being subtle about hating this place and wanting to leave," Miller mumbled under his breath. He positioned his arm to rest on top of his chest to give me more room on the bed. "If someone sees that map, she's screwed."
I eyed Clarke on the bunk bed beside us. "Let Clarke do what she wants," I murmured back to him, knowing the cameras in the room couldn't see our faces. A shirt draped over the top bunk perfectly shielded our faces from the cameras and gave us a chance to talk without being seen. "Her being seen as a threat here makes things easier on us."
"Speaking of," Miller lifted himself up on his elbow to peer down at me instead. He dropped his voice to a breathless whisper to avoid being overheard by anyone in the room, especially Clarke. "Monty and I were walking around last night and we overheard two guards talking about the mine tunnels."
I rose a brow in curiosity. "Mine tunnels?"
Miller nodded his head. "In the packet," he gestured to the stack of paper Clarke was clearly invested in on her bunk. "It talks about how Mount Weather's electricity is generated by a dam. This whole mountain is powered by five turbines and the mine tunnels are connected to the dam."
I lowly whistled at the new information. "Can someone survive a jump from that high up?"
"You just have to land feet first," Miller answered. "If anyone could survive a jump from a dam, it's you, Wren."
"Okay, so, we have a way out of here, but the only problem is that we don't know how to get from here to the mine tunnels. There has to be a door to them somewhere in here, but it has to be heavily guarded."
Miller reached forward to tap against my side, where the key card was safely tucked in my bra strap, securely hidden. "With that, you can get in anywhere and you need to act quick before Maya's father realizes it's missing."
The back of my head shook against the thin pillow. "I don't think Maya would suspect me. I strengthened our friendship when she gave me some of her old clothes and--" I paused as the memories resurfaced from that moment in her bedroom. "She asked about Bellamy."
"What about Bellamy?" He questioned with a curious look on his face.
My tongue poked against the inside of my cheek. "Just, uh-- What he was like, who he was...What he meant to me." My voice dropped to a breathless whisper as I mumbled the last part. I shook my head as if to clear my confused thoughts about Bellamy and my feelings. "Um, just-- I think she trusts me now because of it."
Miller gazed at me beside him. "I feel like there's more to it than that, but I can also tell you don't want to talk about it right now," he responded, surprising me with his words.
"I'm just confused about everything," I whispered to him, eyes momentarily filling with tears that dared to fall given another moment of weakness. I sucked in a deep breath and willed myself to reign in my emotions. "Um, anyways," I wiped away the tears before they could fall down my cheeks. "Tell me more about what you heard from the guards. Did they say where the tunnels were?"
Miller's eyes lingered on my face like he was checking to see if I was truly okay before he spoke once more. Eventually, he broke and continued, "All I heard them say was that the level two entrance picked up some good rounds these past two days."
