It was a normal case. It went well, then bad, then Lucy found the source, George got sealed it, and Lockwood covered them. It was all fine. Kipps and Holly were on a different case, but again, there were no problems, and they would meet back up at Portland Row.
"Hey George, what even was the source?" Asks Lockwood.
"Not sure. It looks like some sort of rock here," He says, tossing it back to Lockwood. Lockwood looks at it for a minute, then realizes.
"It looks like a rock."
"What kind of person values a rock that much?" Lucy asked, finally getting the voices from the case out of her head.
"Not sure, it probably has a fun story behind."
Once back home, they were able to see it properly. Lockwood went to the basement to throw the bags where they belonged. George started making some food, and Lucy was looking at the source.
"Well, this is a normal rock, other than this rough patch."
"There has to be something behind it," George says while putting plates on the table.
"Yeah, but I'm not exactly worried about it."
"Could you go get me my book on odd sources? It should be in the bookshelf just outside my room."
"On it," after Lucy heads upstairs, Lockwood appears in the kitchen.
"So, Lockwood, you done anything about your little crush yet?" Lockwood's ears turned slightly pink. Since George figured out that he likes Lucy, Lockwood has not heard then end of it.
"Kind of, I'm not sure where we stand though,"
"Meaning...?"
"You know that necklace I found when we were turning Jess' room into a Spirit Gate, well I gave it to her."
"Okay, did you tell her anything?"
"Well right before Winkmen and his goons showed up I was telling her about it, but right as I was about to get to the important part Quill had to ruin in and tells us they were here, then after that madness, I put it in the papers she didn't want to sign."
"Okay, so she saw it then -"
"Found it! Okay, George, you can now take over." The boys just gave each other a look of 'Thank God she started talking before she came in here'. After a few minutes, George comes up with a theory.
"Okay, so from what I've got out of this is that the source probably has some weird kind of curse-which I highly doubt - or this person just had issues, and liked this rock WAY too much."
"Luce, you wanna try your Touch on it?" Lockwood asked.
"I guess, not sure how that'll help, but if you guys think I should, I'll give it a try."
"Go ahead, I'll be here if it gets to bad for you," Lucy closed her eyes and tries to feel the emotion on the source, at first there was nothing, but then it hit her. It was all happy and fine, then slowly anger took over almost completely, until there was a mix of anger and pain, and it just cut off. When she opened her eyes, she was in Lockwood's arms.
"Are you okay Luce, it seemed to affect you pretty hard?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. This person had anger issues, and I guess it just hit kind of close to home. "
"As long as you're okay," Lockwood says, pulling her into another hug.
"What do you mean 'it hit close to home'?"
"My dad was abusive until he died, constant anger then a quick moment of fear, then dead."
"How did he die?" George asks.
"He was hit by a train. He got drunk at work and fell off the platform right as the train was pulling in." As she said this, she snuggled into Lockwood's chest. She did not exactly like her dad when he was alive, but the story still hurt to remember that and the pain of growing up without a father. She believes that it would have better to grow up with an asshole of a dad than a dead one.
"Oh, sorry, Luce . . . I didn't think it would be so gruesome."
"It's fine George really, he was a mean man when he was drunk, and he was often drunk." Lockwood gave her a quick kiss on the top of her head, and George gave him a confused look. "I'm going to go to bed, night guys,"
"See you in the morning, Luce,"
After Lucy was out of the room, it was time for George to speak his mind. "I thought you didn't know what you two were."
"I don't,"
"But you just kissed her while she was cuddled into your chest."
"She was caught up in a bad memory... she needed some sort of comfort."
"So if I was haunted by a bad memory and was currently caught up in it, you would kiss me?"
"Wow, what did we just walk into?" Quill asks as he and Holly come into the kitchen. "Cubbins, why are you asking Tony to kiss you?"
"That was way out of context!" Both Lockwood and George exclaimed.
"You know what, I'm going to bed before this gets worse."
"Probably smart move, Lockwood." Holly says, getting an apple out of the bag. "It'll make George's explanation more fun."
With Lockwood out of the room, Kipps could really question George. "So...? I'm still waiting."
"So Lockwood claims he doesn't know what he and Lucy are, but then he just kissed her head while hugging her. He claimed that it was because of the source, and what she felt off if it and that she needed comforted, so I asked if he'd do the same for me to help prove my point, but then you came and ruined it."
"Oh well, if it's nothing fun, then I'm going home." Quill says
"Yeah, me too. My girlfriend is probably starting to get worried about me."
"Okay, see you guys tomorrow." As George was sitting in the kitchen, now alone, he realized that the rough patch was really an inscription, but he was too tired to read it, so he also went to bed.
