Chapter Twenty Six

"My ex-wife is back."

Wynter stood frozen behind the door, eyes wide open and shocked to her core. She wasn't expecting a bomb like that at all, she was rooted to the ground and shivering, like someone splashed a bucket of ice-cold water at her face.

WHAT?

Dahan-dahan kong sinara ang pinto at sumandal dito. Hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala sa narinig ko, Keith was married before? He was married? How? It was not included on the report that the investigator gave me!

Umalis ako sa pagkakasandal and paced the room, trying to digest the information, still not believing what I've heard. I mean, hindi naman imposible na may mga past flings and girlfriends si Keith, he's hot! It's not questionable that women want him but a wife? I can't imagine him having a wife!

I mindlessly sat on the edge of the bed and think of everything that has happened so far. Come to think of it, he is always wearing a platinum band over his pinky finger. Hindi nito iyon tinatanggal even when taking a bath and I actually ignore it dahil hindi naman ito nakasuot sa ring finger. Wedding rings are supposed to be in ring fingers right? I mean that's traditional.

Nevertheless, It's still a platinum band! I've seen my parent's wedding rings before and it looked a lot like the one Keith have.

I frowned.

Why am I worrying over these trivial things?

Eh ano naman kung kinasal na sya before sa isang babaeng nag-ngangalang Olivia na ngayon ay nagbabalik na daw? I don't care! Olivia is a thing of the past now anyway, she's history who's making a comeback but whatever. Isa pa, it's not like I'm inlove with Keith or something to be worried about it. Right?

Well, we have an agreement and a distraction like her might get on the way so...

Wait, why am I explaining things?

Napahiga ako sa kama at tinitigan ang kisame. The chandelier glinted at the afternoon light. This is so weird.

After a few moments of fretting over, I came to a conclusion. The news made me realized na hindi ko pa talaga ganon kakilala si Keith. Napakarami ko pang hindi alam tungkol sa kanya. I knew Kate, her twin-sister, I've met his parents waaaaay before and met his younger sister, but that's it. Ni hindi ko nga alam na sila ang may-ari ng pinakamalaking korporasyon sa buong bansa.

Napakarami kong tanong and hindi ko mahanap ang sagot. Bakit may gustong pumatay sakin just because I got involved with him? Is that how business works? That makes no sense at all! Bakit napakadali sa kanya ang pumatay? I get it na they were targeting us but why? Why do I feel like there's more to it than what he claims as business? Why is he so enigmatic? Why am I even here?

This is suffocating. Being kept in the dark like a clueless idiot, not knowing that I have willingly stepped into the lion's den. I don't like this set-up at all. I demand answers! And I'm willing to do everything to have it.

Nagkaroon ako ng panibagong motivation to make Keith speak up and that motivation forced me para bumangon and looked for my new iPhone X, courtesy of Keith's am ex card, and dialed Elle's number. Elle knew a lot of people who can dig deeper to someone than a private investigator. Yes, hindi ko nga alam kung bakit marami syang kilala, maybe it's one of the perks of having to explore a lot of places before, who knows.

Nag-ring lang ng nag-ring ang kabilang linya, it was also like that before. She never really answered at laging nada-direct into voicemail.
