Chapter 13

"OK, apprentices. Today, Flowerclaw and I will teach you a new fighting move," Woodpool announced to Leafpaw, Brownpaw, and Ruthpaw. They were at the training centre near the camp.

Leafpaw's heart skipped a beat. Yay, a new move! she thought.

""Woodpool, why is Stemleaf not here?" Ruthpaw asked, looking at her paws.

"Um...he's busy," Flowerclaw meowed. Rythpaw glanced at her in disbelief.

"OK, here's the move." Woodpool ignored Ruthpaw's look of disbelief. "First, place your taion the ground in a curve way like this." Woodpool curled his tail and placed it on the ground.

"Remember to do it quick," Flowerclaw advised. "So that your opponent would not notice it until it's too late."

"Then, swipe your tail at your enemy. Soil will get into your enemy's eyes, blinding your enemy for a while," Woodpool continued. "Use that second to strike a blow at him."

Leafpaw tried to do the move. She swipe her tail upwards, causing soil to get into Brownpaw's eyes.

"Hey!" Brownpaw meowed irritatedly. Leafpaw gave him an awkward smile.

"Also, watch where you swipe your tail in cause the soil hit your own clanmate instead!" Flowerclaw mewed in amusement. Everyone cracked up except for Leafpaw who stared at her paw embrassingly.

Once everyone stopped laughing, Woodpool said, "Now, practise that move on me. Let's see who can get me off my paws. Ruthpaw first."

Ruthpaw narrowed her eyes. "I'm so going to trip you," she said to Woodpool proudly. Woodpool gave her an unbelievable smile.

As quick as a twoleg monster, Ruthpaw lowered her tail and tried to swipe soil into Woodpool's eyes. But at the last second, Woodpool dodged, missing the flying soil by mere inches.

"Hey, you dodged!" Ruthpaw complained.

"Your enemy will dodge too," Woodpool explained. "Just practice more, and you will be quick enough."

"OK, now is Brownpaw's turn," Flowerclaw mewed. "Come on, Brownpaw."

Brownpaw curled his tail hesitantly and swipe his tail at Flowerclaw, sending soil towards Flowerclaw's eyes. She tried to duck, but the soil had already hit her eyes, blinding her for a second.

Brownpaw hesitated for a while, giving time for Flowerclaw to recover. She dodged before Brownpaw could strike a blow at her.

"Mouse dung!" Brownpaw muttered, just enough for Leafpaw to hear.

"Brownpaw, you need to have more confident in yourself," Flowerclaw reprimanded. "You would have been able to get me off my paws!" Brownpaw scrowled.

"What Flowerclaw had said is right," Woodpool agreed. "Anyway, now is Leafpaw's-"

Before Woodpool could finished his sentence, Leafpaw curled her tail and swiped soil into his eyes, causing Woodpool to rub them.

Using that opportunity, Leafpaw gathered her strength into her back legs and pounced. She landed on Woodpool and knocked him over. Tripium filled her as she looked at the fallen Woodpool.

"Wow..." Flowerclaw echoed while Woodpool tried to stand up again. Brownpaw and Ruthpaw looked at Leafpaw in disbelief.

"That was awesome!" Woodpool mewed. "I had teached you well."
