"Hang on a second, you messed up Kenzie's book? And she still let you kiss her?!" Lucy clarified, her eyes narrowing.

I groaned internally, already tired of this argument. Kenzie's knuckles whitened around her makeshift ice pack as she pressed it harder onto her temple, her eyebrows furrowing in pain. "Yes. Shocking, I know." Kenzie muttered, shifting her position on the pillow that was propped up against my leg.

Lucy had gotten very excited when Kenz and I began to recount the story of our second kiss; the first kiss story wasn't really an option, considering that there's no way to tell it without also revealing the fact that I'm Spider-Man. So, we silently decided on the bus kiss.

"What's even more shocking is that Peter made the first move," Lucy whistled, impressed. "Never in a million years would I have thought that's how it would turn out. Especially not after a book incident."

Heat rose in my cheeks, and just as I was about to retort, I remembered that she was actually right. I hadn't made the first move. So, begrudgingly, I held my tongue.

There's no way she understands how intimidating that is, I thought to myself bitterly.

"Yeah," Kenzie smirked. "First he steals my book, then he kisses me. These are two very opposite ends of the boyfriend brownie point scale."

I whimpered in exasperation. "Hey! Don't make me out to be some evil villain here. I already apologized. Plus, I said I'd get you two new ones, remember?"

"Books before crooks," Kenz whispered, grinning.

          "Hey! I'm not a crook!"

Ahead of me, Charlie exhaled loudly. "Sure you are. You stole her heart, didn't you?"

Kenzie winced. "That was the most cliche thing I've ever heard."

I mentally agreed, disregarding the jolt of hurt that stirred inside of me at her words.

"It's true though, isn't it?" Charlie said simply, speaking as if he already knew the answer.

"Hm? Yeah. Of course it is." Kenzie yawned, adjusting the pillow once more. She laid her head back against it, her breathing beginning to slow.

I cleared my throat, turning my gaze towards Lucy and Charlie. "You guys should probably go. Kenzie's had a long day-- she needs to rest."

"But the story's not over yet," Lucy complained.

"Yeah, but we can finish it later. It's still going to be the same story tomorrow." I argued, gently lifting the pillow Kenz was resting on off of my leg and resetting it onto her bed.

I moved across the room, ushering Charlie and Lucy out despite Lucy's protesting. After a final complaint from Lucy, I slammed the door shut.

          "Ow," Kenzie groaned.

          I flinched. "Sorry."

"Mhm." Kenz turned over to her other side. "Thank you for getting rid of them so I can get to bed. My head is pounding."

I sat down next to her, folding my hands in my lap and letting my shoulders sag. "Yeah. Yeah, of course."

"Hey Peter?" Kenzie started after a moment of silence, her tone soft and serious.
