The rest of the party is a blur. I don't have to kiss anyone else thank god, and Ashton is slightly happier than he was as the beginning. We play cheesy board games like Monopoly and Chutes & Ladders (yes, we went there). By the end, I had actually gotten to known Ashton as a person as opposed to a face in the Hall, and by the time Monday came around, he was actually saying "hi" to me in the hallway, and would stop at my locker in the morning to do so.

According to Amber he's "totally in love" with me. I don't agree. I've tried flirting with him, but that usually doesn't work out for me. It usually ends with me blushing and walking away, and tripping and falling on my face. Not necessarily in that order.

The next day, Amber comes over to my locker, literally dragging Ashton behind her. He looks normal for the first time in a week. His hair is put into an "Emo fringe", he looks like he actually got sleep he last few nights, and he's wearing an amazingly perfect sweatshirt that says "I'd rather be playing the saxophone" with skinny jeans and converse.

"So, as we all know, drama club auditions are in a few days, and I was thinking that all 3 of us should audition." Amber states very professionally.

"Yeah! Totally!" I reply. I honestly completely forgot about the auditions. I already know I'm gonna sing Waving Through a Window from Dear Evan Hansen, but I haven't practiced at ALL. The school production this year is Beauty and the Beast, and I'm hoping to get they part of Lumiere. I have yet to get a lead in a musical, so hopefully this will be my year.

Ashton seems totally opposed to that idea, but from what I've heard, he's a really good singer.

"Ashton?" Amber says, Waving her hand in his face.

"What? Yeah, sure."

I spend the next few days eating, sleeping, and breathing Waving Through a Window. I've been singing it so much, my parents have told me to sing it only when they're at work. Which is most of the time. They really only get weekends off, and even then they have to do work stuff at home. I haven't come out to them yet, not that they wouldn't accept me, I know they would. They're two of the most liberal people I know. I just don't want them to... I don't know.

Friday comes around, and it's audition time. I meet Amber and Ashton in the theater classroom. Amber is the third person to audition, I'm seventh, and Ashton is twelfth. I don't know what either of them are singing, Amber never tells, and Ashton is just not talking to anyone. It's probably just nerves.

The first people are called, and then they leave. Amber is up, and I give her a double thumbs up, and she does the same to me. She walks into the room, and closes the door behind her. Leaving me alone with Ashton.

"So um... about Ambers party." He starts.

"What about it?" I really don't want to talk about this right now.

"We kissed."

"Can we not talk about this right now? I don't want anything else on my plate until after auditions."

Amber comes back, smacking herself in the forehead the entire time. "I was flat the entire time." She says, sliding down the wall, running her hand through her electric blue hair.

We sit there in awkward silence the whole time. Until my name is called. I walk into the classroom, and the two directors (Mrs. Warner and Mr. Green) are sitting at a table, staring at me intently. I pull the door closely behind me, and stride towards the middle of the room.

"My name is Oliver Shaw, and I will be singing Waving Through a Window from the broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen." They nod, and gesture for me to start. I sing the song the best I ever have. I am actually confident that I will get into the show this year.
