I checked the clock mounted on the side of the cafeteria wall. Five minutes left.
In front of me, Jules slammed her newly bought can of lemonade. "I still can't believe you'd do this Lyric Renée Delton. To me of all people!"
Jules huffed and opened up her lemonade.
"I mean I didn't mean to offend you or anything." I tried to reason. "It's just that he was being decent to me for once."
"Yeah sure, but everyone's nice to you Lyric! You're like the innocent puppy dog angel of our class."
I nodded. She was right about that.
"Whatever Jules. I promised Jayden I would do it so I'll do it. I don't go back on my word."
Jules sighed then nodded her head. "Fine but you owe me!"
She stuck her index finger to my face as I was getting up. "Ice cream later! The usual place and if you don't show up I'll never speak to you again. You understand me?"
I laughed while I walked out of the cafeteria's doors. "Sureee Jules."
As I walked to the library, I saw Jules sticking her tongue at me through the cafeteria's glass windows.
When I arrived at the library, I noticed that Detective Cheema and Officer Natalie were at the counter talking to the librarian. Addison wasn't lying about that. It did look like they were taking observations.
I found Jayden near the back of the library with a laptop in front of him and a bunch of photos scattered around the table.
"Hey, Wells."
Jayden looked up from his laptop and nodded his head towards me. "Thanks for helping, Shortcake. I appreciate it."
"So." Jayden pushed the laptop in front of me and I sat across from him. "I already got the film in place. Everything's ready to go except the dialogue. Just type it here then I'll record me reading it in this handy dandy thing." Jayden showed me the microphone he was holding.
"Oh." Jayden slid the computer to him and opened up another tab. "It would be good if you actually watched the film so you know what to write. Don't worry it's not that long."
Jayden pressed play and the film began. It started off with some adorable pictures of him as a baby. I took a mental picture when I saw the most hilarious photo of Jayden riding a wooden horse in only his diaper and a cowboy hat. Jayden turned red when he noticed my expression.
When toddler Jayden showed, I scrutinized his hair and looked back at the Jayden sitting beside me. "Wells? I didn't know you had blonde hair as a kid."
Jayden chuckled and his hand went through his chestnut colored locks. "Umm yeah. It started getting browner right before I moved here."
The film continued and it went to when Jayden was in his elementary years. I smiled when I saw Jayden's hands covered in paint and him eating goldfish in a classroom. Then another picture appeared that made me scratch my head. Then another. And another. It was of tiny Jayden in the middle of a group of two other boys. The two boys looked familiar, but I couldn't place them. In the fifth picture that was like that, I paused the film and looked at Jayden.
