A boy in my class named Calum pointed to a spot between second base and the third baseman. I walked over to it glumly and started to panic.
"Calum!" I yelled.
Calum turned around and said. "What?"
"I can't catch!"
Calum shrugged and gave me an award-winning smile. "No worries. You're the all-American shortstop. Nobody can mess that up."
I huffed. Baseball players.
Turns out, I can mess up on being a shortstop. I couldn't catch a single ball that came to me. When this torture called Physical Education was almost done, I was in the sandy dugout with Addison and Vaia awaiting my turn to bat. Addison was kicking around the sand while I explained to Vaia what Jules told me about Jayden.
"I can't believe it Lyric! A boy has a crush on you! And not just any boy, the Jayden Wells!!!" screamed Vaia.
A couple of the people on our team gave Vaia annoyed glances while she was screaming. I covered my ears until I noticed that Addison had her arms crossed.
"Juliette is a liar, don't forget Vaia," said Addison crossly.
Vaia gave Addison a disappointed look and clucked her tongue. "Well, I'm going to believe it. Hmm, what should the ship name be? Lyrden? Jayric? Ooooh, how about Layden?"
I massaged my temples. "There's one more thing."
Vaia gave me a harsh look. "One more thing? And you didn't care to tell me earlier?!?!"
I looked away. Now people were giving her worried looks. I reached out to Addison but she merely smiled. She can't help. She's about to bat. I slumped down on the bench.
"Yeah, one more thing."
Vaia was about to blow. "WELL THEN TELL ME!"
I put my head down and prepared for impact. "He asked me to go on a walk with him today. He said it wasn't a date though. He said that it was a meeting between mutual friends."
Vaia screamed her heart out. The gym teacher gave her a look and she went back to looking at me like a crazy clown. Soon after, the game continued.
"Oh Lyric! I'm so happy for you! You're going on a date!!!"
I waved my hands in front of my face. "Nononono he said it that it's not a date Vaia."
She waved me off. "Oh, they always say that."
I was about to protest until I realized that I heard people yelling my name. I shook my head and realized that it was my turn to bat. I went up and grabbed the bat. The pitcher was about to pitch until Jayden started jogging toward me from the outfield.
He stopped and positioned himself right behind me. "What are you doing?" I hissed.
Jayden smirked. "Distracting you."
Jayden caught the ball in his hand and yelled. "Strike one!"
He threw the ball back and I said. "Seriously, what are you doing?"
