"Yes I'm here to see Mary "
"Yes ma'am right this way "
When my dad came to see me , I left town with Bella, I haven't heard from my brother since then either. My daddy wanted me to turn on shine and give him information about his wharehouses but I refused. He threaten to take Bella away if I didn't tell him where at least one of them were. Most girls when they see they daddy they get excited but I was scared as hell once I seen mines ,that was the worst day of my life besides leaving my mother behind.Thats why I loved Shawn so much he was more of my protecter the kind of protection only a father could give.
The waitress led me to a table, where a older woman sat in a pearl white dress suit , and heels on , with diamonds around her neck and wrists. She stood up and smiled , almost Begining to cry.
"My baby girl."
I parked Bella's stroller and sat down instead of hugging her.
"Hello Mom"
"Oh. Okay"
This the happiest I've ever seen my mother , I've never even seen her smile it was trying to comfort me and shine after getting her ass beat.
"Oh I'm so happy you came I was so surprised when you called me to meet me.
I didn't say anything I just couldn't help but notice how flashy she was she could never afford any of that when we were kids. She could barely afford for shine to get a haircut that's why he has dreads. She already knew how I was feeling.
"Licia I know this must be hard seeing me after all theese years ."
"Well from what I see I wasn't too hard for you " I said reading the menu
"Ya well I got a job with good pay and benefits."
"How long have you worked there"
"Just a few years... Going on 5"
"Shine is about to be 25 ."
"Yes I know he's growing so old "
I shut the menu and looked her in the eyes.
"Shine is 24 and we left when he was 16 meaning we left 9 years ago ...."
"Yes I know .. I'm aware sweetheart."
"Five years ago?, If you were making good money and could afford all theese flashy jewelry why you didn't come for us "
She put her glass down , and started playing with her nails with a nervous look on her face almost as if she was about cry. But she couldn't be anymore hurt then I was.
"Alicia-"
"No ! Why didn't you come back for us, you sitting here with diamonds and pearl but you forgot about your kids... You didn't forget about bri !"
Bri was me and shines older sister she always favored her for some reason she never got a hand laid on her it was always just me and shine. He treated her like a princess and momma knew that.
"Yes ! I got my self together but there hasn't been a day gone by that I don't think about you and my son. I don't feel bad about letting shine take you to my sister. I knew he could take care of you I knew he would protect you, and your doing so good now right ?",
I hate to say it but she was right shine did do a good job of taking care of me when we left. He was like another father to me , the kind that I needed. The only reason he got into the weed business was to take care of me. He rented me my first apartment, he bought my first car , and if I woulda stayed I wouldn't have bella or worse I could be dead.
"Now would it be a problem to have lunch with my daughter."
I opened the menu back up and starting looking again.
"She's so beautiful " she said looking over at bella sleeping in her stroller.
"Bella"
"I'm sorry"
"Bella. .. that's her name ...I named her after her granmother .
Shawn never understood why I named her bella. It was my mother real name. My father called her Mary because she always listend to Mary j blidge that was her favorite singer.
Tears started to fall out of her eyes as I handed her over to her. She bounced her rubbed her hair smelling her.
"She smells like baby lotion " she laughed.
"Your a beautiful mother alicia I wish I could've gotten another shot with you and shine ,I wish I could've been better."
"are you still with daddy "
"We still conversate but we don't live together "
"Then you couldn't have wanted better "
"Dad went to see Shawn "
Her smile turned into a frown real quick
"I need to see him "
"I don't think that's a good idea "
"Your father is up to no good I need to see him !!"
