"What are you doing?" Tyler chuckled, Josh's hands wrapped around him securely as the man lifted him out his seat

"Bringing you home, of course." Josh smiled with a mysterious glint in his eyes

"Yeah, I know that but..." Tyler's fingers tangled in Josh's hair

"I have a thing or two planned." Josh winked, Tyler's face heated up for the millionth time today

The brunet abused his bottom lip with his teeth. Sure, surprises were great and all but it gave Tyler too much anxiety. He hated the unknown, he hated when he wasn't in control of the situation. The boy wasn't a control freak but knowing what's going to happen to you in that dark mysterious room was always nice. He liked not having his heart ripped apart by a stroke.

Josh's smile was giving Tyler an anxiety attack. It wasn't as major as he was used to but it still was unpleasant. Josh must've noticed Tyler's worried physiognomy. The man sat Tyler gently on the porch, the boy let out a frustrated sigh. He didn't want to ruin Josh's surprise but his anxiety flipped the bird at him and the man. Tyler couldn't help it and it wasn't his fault and yet his silly brain made him think that it was.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Josh caressed Tyler's cheek "Listen, I'm not going to knock you out and harvest your organs or anything. I just wanted to do something sweet."

"I'm sorry, I ruin everything." Tyler sighed

"Hey, it's natural to feel a little bit anxious," Josh gave Tyler's shoulder a gentle reassuring squeeze.

"But it's not 'a bit', it's a lot." Tyler's chest heaved painfully

Josh's fingers slipped under Tyler's chin and lifted the boy's head up. Tyler managed to squeeze out a tiny smile. It was impossible not to smile when those two dark eyes were staring right at you.

"Tyler, "Josh's hand travelled down the boy's shoulder sensually "I would never do anything that would make you feel uncomfortable or scared."

"I know..." Tyler muttered, he felt like such a loser. Ruining everything with his stupid anxiety.

"Do you want to know what I have prepared for you?" Josh questioned

"I guess." Tyler shrugged

"Well, I bought possibly every snack I could find in the store twice and set up a little spot for you on the couch with pillows and blankets so that you could rest comfortably and maybe even watch a movie with me?" Josh raised his eyebrows "I have a PlayStation, you could play games if you want."

"I- "Tyler's breath hitched, he needed a few moments to process that

"I just wanted to do something for y-you," Josh began muttering "I'm sorry i-if that's too much- "

"No, it's perfect." Tyler's finger stopped Josh's lips from moving "It's perfect, Josh."

"Oh, that's..." Josh swallowed thickly "That's great."

"Should we go check out the snuggling cave then?" Josh suggested

"Oh, I like the sound of that," Tyler smirked

Tyler's fingers mashed the buttons as he tried to save his favourite character from dying. The boy's forehead creased, he licked his lips intensely, eyes darting at the screen and nothing else. Josh shoved popcorn into his mouth. He liked watching Tyler play the game, the boy was really good at it. Well, very good at quick time events, not decision making. Half the characters were practically dead and it wasn't even the end. Josh didn't have the gut to tell Tyler that he hasn't played the game yet. Josh was looking forward to it but if Tyler was happy, Josh could deal with some spoilers. The game had forty different endings after all.

"No, no, no!" Tyler's fingers practically dug into the controller "Motherfucker!"

"Maybe you should you know..." Josh shrugged "Be cool? It's just a game."

"What the fuck did you just fucking say?" Tyler seethed "Josh, you don't understand. It's serious, really serious-"

"You're dying." Josh pointed out

Tyler screeched and started mashing the buttons, Josh sat next to him with an amused smirk on his face. Tyler had fucked everyone over but still tried to save his favourite character desperately.

"You do realize that everyone who was important is dead and now he's the only one who's left?" Josh pointed at the screen

"As long as my baby is okay, everything is fine." Tyler muttered, "This cinnamon roll must be protected- "

"He's bleeding- "

"It's just a flesh wound." Tyler scoffed "He'll heal."

"He's a robot."

"Josh, shut the fuck up." Tyler chuckled "I'm trying my best here."

"You should try harder." Josh snickered. Tyler bumped his shoulder against his without taking his eyes off the screen

Tyler forgot about the pain in his chest, the shattered rib was irrelevant when it came to this game. All that mattered was the game. Josh liked seeing Tyler like that, away from the pain and struggling. Cooped up in his own bubble where only he mattered. That's what Josh wanted. He wanted Tyler to escape from the reality just for a couple of hours. No pain, no suffering, no hard decisions. Maybe the game Tyler was playing wasn't the best decision since it evolved around decision making.

Josh watched a tear roll down Tyler's cheek. He wrapped his arm around the boy's shoulder comforting and kissed his temple. Tyler blinked rapidly, a few more tears rolled down his cheek.

"What have I done?" Tyler whispered setting the controller down in his lap

"Well, sometimes what you think is the best is not actually morally right." Josh rubbed the boy's tense shoulder "And what's morally right is not actually the best."

"That just contradicts itself." Tyler wiped his tear

"That's just life." Josh smiled "Maybe there's still a good ending?"

Tyler stared at the screen not blinking, his teary eyes darted at Josh.

"That's it," Tyler pressed quit game "I'm restarting this."

"But you're halfway in the game," Josh whined

"What's the point of playing if everyone I love is dead?" Tyler shook his head

Josh shrugged his shoulders and popped open a can of beer. Tyler scrunched up his nose and politely declined the drink. All his focus was on playing the game right. This time he wasn't going to mess up and kill everyone and scar himself mentally.

"My son..." Tyler muttered under his breath as the game started again

Josh smirked, Tyler easily attached to everything emotionally. No matter what it was, video game, movie or book characters, weird pet apps or Josh's houseplants. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing but Josh felt that his plants didn't need full names but Tyler insisted. These little quirks of his were what Josh loved the most.

Tyler was far from perfect but he was perfect to Josh because when you love someone, you love all parts of them.
