A/N: Okay, so I lied, but this is still more than one update in a week. That has to count for something right? Anyways, if anyone is still reading this book, here is chapter 5. I actually kind of like this chapter.
Chapter 5
The first day back to school after a long break is always the hardest. When I woke up Monday morning, it took me almost twice as long to get ready. I had to skip breakfast because I was going to be late. As I pulled into the school parking lot, I heard the first bell ring. I grabbed my backpack and purse out of the front seat and ran as fast as I could, along with about 20 other kids who had trouble waking up this morning.
My first class is Algebra 2, with my favorite teacher Mrs. Highland. I ran to my locker and got my math book and binder. I started to run again, “Miss Wilson, no running please.” It was a man’s voice.
“Yes, sir,” I turned around to find my principal, Mr. Johnson, and smiled at him. I took off again, just not quite as fast as before. When I reached the stairs, I groaned. Why did my first hour class have to be upstairs? I asked myself.
Just as I entered Mrs. Highland’s classroom, the bell rang. I let out a sigh of relief. I walked to my seat and opened my book to the page number written on the white board. I worked through the problems with ease, and got almost all of my homework done by the time the bell rang.
Second, I have English. I don’t love the teacher, but Josh is in my class, so that makes things a little better. I walked down the hall to the English room and got my books off the shelf. I took my books back to my seat and turned to Josh’s desk, but to my surprise, he wasn’t there.
Great, so much for a first day back.
“Luke, will you get the door? I have food on my hands,” I asked from the kitchen.
“Sure, Charlie.”
“Oh, hey Luke, I didn’t realize you were back home. It’s great to see you. Is Charlie here?” I heard Josh’s voice say from the foyer.
I wiped my hands on my apron and shouted, “I’m in the kitchen!”
Josh came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist, “What are you making?”
I turned around and smirked, “Dinner. Where were you today? I didn’t see you at school.”
“I was with my mom, she had something she needed me to do. Can I help?”
“Oh, okay. Well, the soup is almost done, but I was thinking we could make cookies. Okay, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, and oreos should all be in the pantry. I’ll get that stuff if you can get the eggs, butter, and a big bowl.”
He released his grip on me for a split second, before twirling me around and pressing his lips to mine, “I love it when you take charge.”
I smiled, “I know.” I wiggled out of his arms and went to collect the ingredients from the pantry. “Okay, it says we also need salt, vanilla and chocolate chips. Will you see if there is any vanilla in the spice cabinet? I’m going to try to find some measuring cups.”
When we found the rest of the ingredients, we began to measure them out.
“Charlie, will you pass the flour?” Josh asked me.
“Sure babe.” I passed the flour to him as he scooped the appropriate amount into the measuring cup. I did the same with the baking soda and salt. I poured them into the bowl and waited for Josh to pour in the flour, but instead, he sneezed, causing the flour to blow all in my hair.
“Whoops…” he half-heartedly laughed.
I grinned and reached for the bag of flour sitting on the counter behind me, “Whoops!” I hollered as I dumped the bag over his head. I made a run for the other side of the kitchen, where I could get away before he got me back.
