Chapter 4
Ryan put his hand over my mouth. “Shut up! I need to tell you something.” He uncovered my mouth and I looked at him.
“What? What was so important that you had to scare the living crap out of me for?” I half screamed. “And why the hell do I need to stay away from Josh? Why should I even listen to what you say?”
“Calm down feisty pants,” Ryan said. “I can’t tell you now, but I need you to just listen to me and I will tell you as soon as it is safe. Oh, and don’t ask Carson about this, she has no idea what is going on, and I don’t want her to. It’s not safe.”
“You keep saying that! What’s not safe? Why can’t I be around Josh? I don’t understand why I should trust you. You know what, I have to go; I’m going to be late. I can’t believe Carson has such an idiot for a brother.” I rolled my eyes.
“Wait,” he grabbed my arm. “Please, just don’t get hurt.”
I frowned at him, but not a disappointed frown, more like a frown of frustration. He let go of my arm and I walked back to Mallory’s.
Carson and I were walking up the stairs at the same time. “Who was at your house?” I gave her a puzzled look. “I saw you talking to someone. Who was it?”
“Ryan.”
“As in my brother?” I nodded. “Why was Ryan at your house?”
I shrugged, “I don’t know.”
“Well he must have said something, what did he want?”
I thought for a second before something popped into my head. “He wanted to know how Luke was, he heard about the recent attacks overseas and wanted to make sure he was okay.” I let out an internal sigh. That was close.
We yelled up the stairs to Mallory for her to come down, because we were too lazy to walk upstairs to get her.
“Guys, I’m right here,” Mallory said and I gasped. She was sitting on the couch.
“God Mall, don’t do that!” Carson squealed.
“Okay, are you guys ready to go?” Mallory asked, quite amused at how easily we were frightened.
“Yeah, let’s go. Who wants to drive?” I asked, sticking my tongue out at Mallory.

When we got back to Mallory’s that night, each of us had shopped our hearts out and we were ready to just lie down and watch a movie. Mallory has a terrible selection of movies, so we went over to Carson’s house instead.
The three of us decided on watching Frozen, because Mallory hadn’t seen it yet. I, on the other hand, had seen it 5 times. I could try and say that Abigail had forced me into watching it over and over, but really, it had become my favorite movie.
Carson was the first to fall asleep and so Mallory and I planned a prank. I searched Carson’s bathroom for shaving cream, and Mallory crept into Carson’s sister, Lauren’s room to find a washable marker. Originally, I had suggested that we use a Sharpie, but decided I would rather live to go to junior prom. Once I had located the shave gel, I sprayed it up and down Carson’s arms and legs (she had fallen asleep with no blanket). Just as I had put on the finishing touches, Mallory snuck into the room with the Crayola marker in hand. She carefully and quietly drew a mustache and large eyebrows on Carson’s face. She topped it off with a large mole right above her mouth. After Mallory and I had completed our prank, we went to bed.
