The Things That Should Not Have Happened (Original Story)

CHAPTER 9: Home Sweet Home?

The long Trek seemed endless; the group continued on the same pattern for days, eat, hunt, walk, set up, and sleep. They were almost ready to give up and just call this forest home, when they came out into a clearing. The four of them gasped in fear and shock as they see Miami, the previous home of Avian and Flash (or so they thought), ruined, they saw all of the buildings and skyscrapers toppled over and ruined. They continued on what used to be the bridge Avian's dad would take every day to go to work. But sadly none of them remembered,

"hey Avian? Does this place look familiar to you?" Questioned Flash as he gazed off into the landscape.

"Kind of, I feel like we've been here before but I just can't put my finger on it." Murmured Avian.

They walked towards the marveling sight and saw men in full hunting gear terrorizing the survivors of what looked like the end of the world; the group tried to mind their own business as they passed the "gang" members, but the people were stubborn, and walked in their path, saying,

"well what do we have here? Four teenagers alone together, stomping in like they own the place"

"Because we do" Amber shot back with as much sass she could possibly put into the sentence so she can throw off the "gang" members. They smirk as if to say that they don't believe her, so Avian steps forward and starts to create a tornado,

"Whoa, Whoa, we don't want to cause trouble with some kids today," said a member

"but we want to cause trouble with some gang members" mocked Flash.

As fast as the eye could see, Flash and Avian shot two of the three members in the foot with their powers, causing the two to curl up in a ball crying, while the other one pulled out a crowbar and started running towards Una. He was two inches from stabbing the sharp edge of the large red weapon into the top of her skull.

"NO!" Shouts Avian as he runs toward Una ready to sacrifice his life for her.

When suddenly, a rush of water creates a barrier between the weapon and Una. A smirk slowly spreads across her face, and with a twitch of her finger the water engulfed the man and threw him like a baseball. Everyone looked at Una, Avian was completely soaked, Flash had confusion flashing across his face, and Amber was smiling so wide Una thought it would come off her face, it was so big.

"Oh sorry Avian, were you about to save me or something?" Una sasses with sarcasm filling her voice to the brim.

With pride, the group held hands and kept walking. Amber's hand was glowing a soft red and made a satisfying hiss as her fingers linked with Una's blue hand that had little dew drops around the palm of her hand. Flash's hand was glowing a faint yellow with sparks coming form his finger tips which was quietly silenced as Avians hand clasped his, Avians hand was light gray and was twirling with little whips of wind. They continued on the bridge until they got to a huge gap with about a hundred-foot drop underneath it. Avian thought of his floating wind pattern and instructed everyone to link arms with him in the center,

Flash smiled and said "at least I get an excuse to hold hands with a beautiful lady." Amber rolled her eyes and Una murmured to Flash

"I don't think flirting with Amber is going to help so I suggest you to stop now" Avian just chuckled as he watched the scene unfold in front of him.

They hid in the shrubbery and slowly walked around the rikers on the other side, being cautious and quiet listening to their conversations making sure none of them said something along the lines of "what was that?" Or "did you hear that?" Instead they over heard some of the rikers saying that the EVILS had a base set up in what used to be Morton hospital, and that some of them staged an attack on it. Only to be shot down by what seemed to be a hurricane that only lasted ten seconds, which they presumed as witchcraft after everything that's happened to the city. Hurricanes and floods tore up the city in 2051, no matter how hard the citizens tried to fix up the city it would always get torn back down the next day. People eventually gave up on trying to fix the city and gave it the nickname "the broken city". The heroes were surprised that the EVILS decided to pick a place like this to conjure, they exchanged silent looks saying that they needed to get to that building. Making sure no one saw them, they raced towards the city, almost immediately they saw the building the "guards" were talking about. It was the only one that wasn't covered in moss and shattered glass. It wasn't even a tall building but due to the fact that the buildings that were twenty stories or over had fallen, it made it look like a skyscraper. As they were about two blocks away they noticed that there were two guards heavily armed that were guarding the entrance, Avian looked around to see that almost everywhere he looked it seemed like the EVILS had taken over.
