I enter the school thirty minutes late which is actually earlier than usual. As much as my mom hates it I've gotten into the habit of coming late for first period and if it wasn't for the risk of getting kicked off of the team, I'd probably be skipping it too. The good thing is the teachers I've had like me and I'm one of the top students in their classes so they've never had a reason to complain.
It was eventful coming home last night after dropping Anita and her brother's at their house, the twins spent the night taunting me that my mom shared more embarrassing childhood memories with the two of them. I'm not surprised she did that, I know she wants to make them feel as welcome as possible and if she needs to do it at my expense, who am I to say no.
I let out a yawn, tousling my bedhead hair as I walk down the hall. The lack of sleep is another reason why I'm always late. I either spend the night doing homework, reading ahead for class or the rare night I spend my time gaming. And since I'm living with the twins, the gaming aspect is more frequent than usual. I turn the corner to my locker and my eyes narrow when I see a figure standing in front of it.
"Why are you hanging around my locker?" I ask aloud, my eyes narrowing in suspicion. Cassandra turns around, her eyes wide as she stares at me in shock.
"Uh, no reason Red," she stammers nervously. Yeah, as if I'll believe that but I honestly don't have the time nor the energy to deal with her shit.
"Just get the fuck out of here," I tell her and I take a step forward but the next thing I know is that she's blocking my locker again. I raise an eyebrow at her, the polite facade dropping at her bullshit.
"Uh, your locker is infested. Yes, it's infested with insects," she feebly answers. Infested with insects? That has to be the shittiest lie I've ever heard.
"If you want to lie then maybe think of something better, too bad your brain is the same size as a peanut. I'm not asking you again, move," I say to her, my voice lowering and she flinches before moving to stand to the side. As soon as I open my locker, pieces of paper fall out at my feet. I pick them up, reading a few with bright red words that are practically screaming from the paper 'which player is next?' to 'you don't deserve to be here' or 'they all hate you'. I turn to look at Cassandra and she knows that she's been caught red-handed.
"Red, it's not what you think, I just thought-"
"You thought what? That if you wrote things like this to her that she'd quit and leave?" I growl out, slamming my fist on the locker beside me. "Even if she tried the team wouldn't let her, I wouldn't let her."
"I-I just meant this as a joke," she says weakly and I roll my eyes in disgust.
"I don't like liars, why the hell did you do this?" I ask glaring at her and I watch the fear disappear from her face as bitterness takes over.
