A loud bang came from outside her door. Olivia glanced up from her book, then shrugged her shoulder and continued reading. The new neighbors were just moving in so she figured that they had knocked over a box or something.
Before she could get lost in her own world again, a knock echoed from her door. Furrowing her eyebrows, she walked over to the door. She looked out the peephole. She gasped, quickly opening the door.
In front of her were hundreds of roses. It looked like a red tide had crashed on her front steps. She shook her head in shock. Why were these delivered here?
She initially figured they were meant for someone else. She bent down, curious to see how bad the delivery guys messed up. Once she felt the blue card in her hand, she dropped it. She knew who they were from.
She covered her mouth with her shaking hand.
The man who had sent these flowers wasn't dangerous.
Well, to her physically.
But mentally, that was another story.
Quickly, she snatched the card and rushed inside. She grumbled under her breath and she flipped it around, seeing her name written in his trademark handwriting. Swiftly, she ripped open the envelope and yanked out the card.
Yupp, just like she thought.
Theses were from Elliot.
She rolled her brown eyes. He had found her. After he left SVU, she moved closer to the precinct. After a few months, she knew it was time to move on. He wasn't coming back and obviously didn't care about her. Why should she care about him?
She tossed the card into the garbage. She didn't want to read it. In fact, she didn't even want to think about him. She had forgotten about him, to be honest.
Okay, so she never forgot about him. His memory would work its way into her mind when she was troubled or worried. But she didn't think about him on a regular basis.
Does this mean that he thinks about her on a regular basis?
No. She didn't want to know. She didn't care what he thought about her. He had left her. He didn't give her a reason or a goodbye when he left the squad. What does he think roses will do? Change her mind about something he did nearly a decade ago?
Olivia glanced back into the garbage, the note peacefully sitting on top. She didn't want to admit it, but she was terribly curious. Why did he do this?
After fighting with herself over what to do and feel for about five minutes, she snatched the card and opened it.
And inside was an apology that only made her more confused.
Before she could process what to do next, another knock came from her front door.
Quickly, she ran to the door and peeked out the peephole. She flipped around, her back now placed against the door. "Shit." She whispered, her arms spread across the door.
"Liv, can we talk?" He asked, his voice a a bit scruffy. She decided not to answer. Maybe he would think she wasn't home. "Liv, I know you're home. The card is missing."
Shit.
She let out a long sigh and ruffled her hair. She probably looked like a complete mess at the moment, but she couldn't fix that right now. She opened the door, his blue eyes piercing into her's. "Elliot." She declared, standing taller.
"Olivia, I'm so glad to see you." He happily sighed, his shoulders relaxing.
"How have you been?" She pressed. Sure, she was happy to see him, too. But she wasn't go into admit that at the moment. She was supposed to anger at him. He left her with unanswered questions.
He gave a soft chuckle, straightening his shoulders. "To any stranger I would say, 'I'm doing great,' but to you, I have to be honest. I'm doing awful."
Her heart tugged for him. She wanted to know everything he had done in the past decade. But more importantly, she wanted to know why he came back.
But, her head pulled her anger direction. This was the guy who had shattered her heart and didn't even bother to help pick up the pieces.
But this was her Elliot.
"Wanna come in?" She asked, opening the door wider. Elliot softly smiled, his blue eyes meeting her brown ones.
"That would be great, Liv." He answered. He walked in, glancing around at everything she had setup. It was a smaller apartment than she had before, but it suited her.
"What would you like to drink?" She asked, walking towards the kitchen.
"Um, coffee is fine. Thanks." He grinned, taking a seat on her couch.
Olivia hid in the kitchen, hoping that this would be the longest cup of coffee ever. She had to sort out everything she wanted to ask him. But first, she still had to process that he was actually in her apartment.
Elliot tapped his hands on his knees, waiting for her to return. She probably hated him. And she was probably coming up with a plan to murder him in cold blood. Oh well. He deserved it, he thought. He was surprised though that she actually let him in.
Eventually, Olivia had come back with two cups of coffee. Her hands were slightly shaking as she handed a cup to Elliot. He thanked her, his hands cradling the cup for dear life. He was nervous as well.
"I'm sure you have plenty of questions." He nervously chuckled, looking down at his cup.
"And I'm sure you have plenty of answers." She fired back, watching him. Suddenly, she felt this urge to be forceful with him. She felt that that was the only way to get him to open up.
He chuckled, swirling his drink, still not looking at her. "What do you want to know?"
"Everything," she instantly replied. "Why did you leave me?"
"Because I loved you too much," he instantly answered, his blue eyes piercing her brown ones. "And I couldn't handle not being with you."
